    Heya,

Just looking for tips regarding the race this Saturday, I'm doing the sprint tri and this is my first triathlon although i've done 3 duathlons so far this year. Looking for advice on rest, should I do any more this week or am I better off relaxing until the race?? Done 16k run 20k cycle on Monday, 10k run Tuesday and done a 5krun and 2k swim tonight.

    Any advice greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

Don't do nothing, its a mistake that people make. You'd go into the race stale.

My 'A' race week looks like any other week except there will be a rest day. this will be two days out from the race. Session volumes are down by 50% on the sessions, but the intensity remains. Day before the race I will do a short sharp swim, short but hard bike and a short but fast run. Plenty of stretching and don't overdo the water. Don't change your diet, don't "carbo load", just make sure you're not hungry the day before the race. (Carbo loading does work but its not just a case of overeating the day before the race).

However for an 'A' race your training plan should be building up to this event in a way that allows you peak. Preparation for an 'A' race starts 3-4 weeks out. Taper blues (aka complete and utter depression, legthargy etc etc). Should hit me next week :(

Just saw what you did this week.

    Take today off.

Do a short swim tomorrow with some fast 50s tomorrow and a 20 minute bike, (easy with some pick ups) and a 10 minute run off the bike (easy with some pick ups).

Anyways I'm not a coach but that is what would do.

    Thanks for the reply Tunney,

Took yesterday off anyway and was planning the same for today but might head down for a bit of a swim later.

    Cheers!
