I went over the 10GB download limit by 1.4 GB last month, only got the bill now and its the same price thought as usual.

I thought they were gona charge me the 6c per meg as stated on there websight, that would be well pricy nearly 100 Euro per gig. I also got a text that comes trough on the modem telling me to go to o2.ie to ensure you dont go over the limit.

So my question is has any one ever went over the limit and gotten charged for it?

Fair usage policy applies means they have the right to charge you but do not automatically. If you continually go over you may get a letter but they can't according to their own policy charge you without informing you.

I went over the first month by 6 gigs and wasn't charged and got no letter. The following month by 2 gigs. The same. As long as you are not doing mad downloading you should be fine.

This does not apply for the other mobile BB companies however, 3 charge as do Vodafone and per megabyte charges are gonna be expensive!

This is answered in the FAQ/Charter sticky...see my sig
    O2 Broadband*
O2 Broadband have a cap and a Fair Usage Policy attached to this, according to there Terms & Conditions they can do the following "O2 reserves the right, at our sole discretion, and having provided you with notice, to introduce an excess Usage charge",, while this shouldn't be a problem for the majority of customers its best to watch your usage, continued heavy usage can result in the suspension, modification or termination of your service.

the official line is that if you go over the limit 3 times they start to charge you but i don't think it's enforced. they'd end up bankrupting people if they did

When I got mine, the guy in the shop said that you'd have to be hitting it hard, constantly, before they'd start giving warnings, and then imposing the fair usage policy. I'd say if people started abusing it more, they might tighten up a bit for everyone - they seem relaxed about it at the moment, but their fair-usage policy gives them the scope to punish abusers.

He also implied that if you were less one month, and a bit over the next, as long as your usage wasn't "standing-out" there should be no problem. Unofficial words though.

I'm not getting anywhere near the 10GB though; 7-odd the first, 2-odd the second, so about 10GB for 2 months.

I went over the limit two months ago by around 1.2GB and nothing happened but a friend of mine got a phonecall from O2 the other day informing him that he was about to go over the 10GB limit.

So it seems to be a bit random whether the Fair Usage Policy is enforced.

Sorry for the massive bump, but is this still the case? If I go over by a gig or two am I okay?

I went over a few weeks ago - got a text to my modem telling me to call customer care. I did, and they said that it was fine, that it was a warning about exceeding my limit and that I wasn't going to be charged. I was under the impression that this would always the case but I exceeded the 10 GB last month and they charged me, no text or other warning. So maybe you only get one
The charge itself was roughly 3.50 so it hardly broke the bank :pac:. They now detail the amount left on your allowance on the o2 website in addition to the excel usage. It's not updated every day though so be careful if you're trying to squeeze the most out of the allowance!

Do the volume stats from the o2 broadband match up to what you are billed for on the 02 site? still waiting on my 1st bill.

Word of warning. This is not the case.
I didn't use mine for over a month (I was out of the country) Got a bill indicating nothing had been downloaded that month.
the next month I downloaded 14GB and I was cut off.

I'd then to go on an overage plan to be turned back on.

Are you talking about the volume stats reported by the connection software, or the amount listed on the website? Use the one listed on the web, as this is what you're billed for using.

I signed up for the O2 package at €19 a month, thinking I'd save money by not having a land line in new apartment. My first monthly bill was €380. I'm stuck in a 12 month contract, but it's probably cheaper to cancel the contract and pay the remaining months.

would that be an easy get out clause? ie they disconnect you, you dont ring them to reconnect , so therefore they are not providing service, and you dont have to pay anymore?

    just wondering,,,
