I think the lady you are talking about is Hetty:

Apparently, she's the best - never seen her work in person, however, so can't comment... so don't really know to be honest!

I don't know if Mrs Gunn still prints commercially, maybe you could ask? I'm sure she or anyone in Gunn's would point you in the right direction. :)

    Good luck!

I would think thats pretty cheap considering the time and effort required to do a hand made wet print. But maybe not so if its just on Resin Coated paper.

Yes if you are going to get prints done regularly then doing it yourself is the way to go. If you haven't got room for a darkroom then there are a number of places you can rent time in. Although the ones I know of are all in Dublin.

By doing it yourself, you make prints the way you want them (after some practice & experience of course) and are not getting someone else's interpretation.

Cheaper for for a couple of trays, measuring jugs, chemicals, paper, enlarger, safe light, blackout material for windows - oh - and years of experience... sure...

That's the price I had payed back home for A3 print. And I have to admit that it is not expensive at all.
You also shouldn't forget the time spent in the darkroom, errors, hair, dust and poisoning.

Hetty is great, she's really nice too, always helpful when I used to use her for processing my films and stuff before she moved to cork.

But yeah nothing beats printing yourself.

Lads, in this day and age where nobody knows the price of a litre of milk or loaf of bread, where you pay €5 for a pint in some bars, €8 per print seems pretty reasonable to me. It's not like your just gonna drop a sh*t load of holiday snaps down to her to do. It's something special to be reserved for your finer work! To me it seems like a fair price.
