How can I get rid of this?

It's not a problem just very annoying. On my log in screen it tell me I have X amount of unread mail. When I read my mail and log out it's still there even though it's no longer unread. I'm using a windows live account. Anyone got any idea of how to get rid of it off my log in screen? Cheers.

You should be able to find some options related to your user account in the control panel, go to the user account icon.

You should be able to stop your .NET passport account which logs in automatically to your email account to stop this. Or you may be able to edit settings related to how your unread messages show up.
