Actually was going to post a similar thread. Flying abroad at the weekend. Can you carry a handbag on board or can you only put whatever you want to bring on the plane in one of the plastic bags? Thanks.

By the way Redpunto I think only liquid make up like liquid foundation or lipgloss cannot be taken onboard with you...powder, mascara, pencil eyeliner etc is okay as far as I know? Could be wrong though if anyone wants to correct me.

Im a bit scared to put my make up in main luggage in case it gets lost. Not worried bout clothes or the kids clothes just the make up:D

Same reason they don't let you take a bottle of water on maybe.

They won't care about the fags though, but they do have restrictions on the number of lighters or matches that you can take aboard. Not sure what it is exactly but something along the lines of two lighters marking you out as being a potential "terrorist", but one lighter is perfectly fine and safe.

In reference to the original question though, I have never bothered with separating anything out into another bag. Not that I'm carrying any make up, but I do have the likes of contact lens solution and other forms of medication on me including needles. They have never pulled me up on this, and are generally more confused by the range of electronics that show up on the scan of my bags than to worry about a couple of ml's of liquid or even noticing the needles I have in the bag as well.

Of course I'm not suggesting that anyone should do anything but follow exactly the letter of the law as laid down by whoever it was that dreamed up the current regulations, but I don't bother wasting my time rebagging stuff if I can help it.

So can I carry my handbag (with make up) on to the plane or will I have to put my belongings in to one of the plastic bags? Flying from Dublin to Budapest.

Your belongings are fine in your handbags. The only things that goes in the clear plastic bags are liquids. You're allowed 10 items(or waht you can fit) of 100 ml or less

No liquids above 100 mill allowed. empty the kids beaker and buy him/her something on the other side of security

It's liquids and gels. So that is including lipsticks, lip balms, mascara, foundation etc. They must be in containers no larger than 100 ml and put into clear plastic bags for passing through security.

With medicine I'm not too sure of. I think you are just allowed the amount required for duration of journey and if they are strict require doctor's note saying you need to carry the medication on board.

Also, baby food, you are only allowed amount needed for flight.

Better off getting a good lock for your suitcase and pack everything away! Sure just do your make-up in the duty free! ;)
