    Hey guys,

I'm at the Arts block all day so don't know the layout of the science buildings at the other end, I might have to take a few photos for college soon so I was wondering are there any particular architectural highlights near the Hamilton?

I know there's the new science museum/exhibition building, sports hall... anything else?

Wow, "photogenic" and "Hamilton" in the same sentence.

Never thought I'd see the day.

Europerson might be the one to answer this, considering he has an active interest in architecture, and he walks through the east end every day. Somehow though, I imagine his suggestions will be politely lacking.

There really is little bar the Fitzgerald, Botany, Chemistry and Physiology/Zoology buildings that have any kind of aesthetic appeal IMO. They're all very near college park and the rugby pitch, so you need not wander far. The dental hospital looks half decent on a sunny morning from outside the lincoln gate. Moyne institute looms drearily in the corner.

Give the Naughton institute a couple years to assimilate into its surroundings; the copper will weather green, and temporary plywood panels will (hopefully) be replaced. Even now, from the right angles on pearse st it can appear impressive, perhaps a little majestic (I'd rather not credit macnamara too much lest they get the opinion I'm a fan).

The naked men carved into the front of the lloyd might be worth a closeup, just be sure not to capture any of the rest of the building. And if you fancy a comedic shot, the suicide door on the third floor of the back of the SNIAM sits awaiting.

Suicide door? My interest is piqued :D I need 10-20 shots that represent Trinity but some comic ones (even if for personal use) would be good too.

Obviously a campanile shot, front gate, BLU library's golden globe (is the Hamilton library impressive?), Botany Bay is where the tennis courts are right? Thanks for the tip about Pearse Street shots of the Naughton Instit. - I do have some from the "lightwave" festival too when Trinity was lit up (during Green Week which I found quite ironic).

They want some "people" shots too - so it's off to the Arts Block to hunt for the girls and down the Hamilton end for the pick among the guys I'm guessing ;) And people lazying around on the cricket fields...

Distinctive black door. Distinctive black door!

I hope you're including the Mooseem building in all of this!

The one with the Irish Elk in it? I don't know if I'll have a wide enough lens! I might take a picture of the "fake" book of Kells in the Berkeley library though (I wonder would they let me take a picture of the real one, without flash photography obviously...)

Also it's for students so interest in gigantic moose and book of Kells might be minimal (I should just take pictures of glory holes really... :( )

    My favourite building on campus.

...wasn't there some thread from some time ago which had europerson writing essays upon essays on the architecture in Trinity from East to West?

I'll see what I can do then :) (I think I need to clear it with security in order to use a tripod in Trinity)

Oh and the long room - that's pretty photogenic isn't it? (If it's good enough for George Lucas... ;)) But again it's a no photography place if I remember correctly :(

I think you way be thinking about the A to Z thread (which included a lot of buildings). Only problem with that thread was that no one kept the order of the letters right.

I think he's referring to the door that opens to reveal a massive drop behind it. It is pretty funny actually.

I loved that thread, not just because I started it!

I was gonna bump it and start off will a clear alphabetical path however I can't find it.

On a side note, when is that college yearbook / a year in Trinity publication coming out? A photographer came into 2 of our lectures and took pictures of us for this so called yearbook. I think he thought he would get the 408 people filling the Ed, more like 150.

Cool! I'll let you know if and when I'm doing this (it's still not confirmed they want me yet! :p but just to have something in mind when I pop in to "the other end" ;) )

You'd be right about the security issues. Even as a resident, I was nearly moved off campus for having an SLR and a tripod. I think it's assumed that anyone with a tripod is a professional, and if you're doing it for payment, you probably would be considered one by the college.

The communications office, however, should be able to keep you on the right side of the authorities- requests for permission to film here go through there, so I imagine they take care of photography too.

Of course, there's a good chance no-one would even notice.

How about the rather pleasing giant grasses/palmish plants inside the hamilton? I always liked those.

Well I would be doing it for Trinity practically so I think they can get the permission sorted out (and likelihood of getting spotted is somewhat low too).

I always like those banana trees when I first saw them (7-8 years ago now!)
