Hoping someone can give advice! I am traveling to Montreal in a couple of weeks and am thinking of buying a good quality acoustic guitar over there (thousand dollars). Will I get away with not having to pay excise on the way back? If I do how much would it be? I'll probably buy loads of clothes too! Anybody got any advice? Thanks!

Id be more worried about spending $1k, and then trusting the baggage handlers with it.

VAT and duty = 25.5% of what you paid for it.
It'll probably still be way cheaper than buying in Ireland even after paying that.

Cheers guys - I think I will go along those lines. Once they see it's not new there's nowt stopping me saying that I brought it over to Canada with me...unless they go to the bother of seeing how much baggage you had on your journey out?!?!?!
