So I bypassed the wide/flatscreen CRT phenom and finally got around to replacing my old 32" Sony CRT with a 40" Samsung (previous to latest series 4/5/6 but price was right and it looked stunning in the shop). Having very limited a/v knowledge and no HDMI devices yet, am I right in thinking that SCART is still the right way to connect DVD or digibox to a TV?

I'm just wondering because SCART seems to have been around since betamax and I don't recall TVs having the red, white and yellow phono connections back then.

Actually, if anyone could point me towards an easily digestible, relatively unbeardy, breakdown of the various connections and what they're best for I'd be very grateful.
