I just want to know, what do you think of the PDF/RDF as a whole, are you proud of them, do you feel a better sense of security, are you unhappy, do you think more could be done, it can be anything. I ask because i'm interested to know what people's opinions of the PDF/RDF are.

Well i'm in the RDF so i see a lot of PDF lads around the place, and i know quite a few of them, but from what i see from them is that there's a lot if Injustice in the PDF, a lot of stuff i think is wrong as a whole. Like one of my mates who was actually in the RDF as well, he got his uniform and one day and that same day he was then shouted at by an NCO because the uniform wasn't Ironed, he only got it and he already got in trouble. I also think it's stupid how the PDF/RDF can charge you for not shaving, or if you have dirty fingernails(although that's not really stupid)

I think some more improvements need to be made in the PDF/RDF and i also think the government should focus more attention on the Military i mean look at our Air Corp and Naval Service, we don't have any decent equipment and my own regiment the Air Defence are still using the old EL-70 Bofors which are in my opinion outdated, the PDF/RDF need new equipment like get some more Mowags, Javelins and some new Aircrafts like some Harriers or something Anyway what do you think?

I get the feeling your not very high in the pecking order therefore your not entitled to an opinion, your a solider, although i will say the weather did pick up in the afternoon.

It's about discipline, if you can't keep your uniform in shape and your face shaved in barracks what's going to happen to your personal admin in the field. Will you be disciplined enough to shave and wash, and clean your rifle?

Agreed, but I think you used some bad examples :p
The Air Corps has recently received 1 new fixed wing (Pilatus) and 2 new helicopters (EC 135 and AW 139) and is working more closely with the Army as a result.
The Cavalry have just received brand new Mowags for close and medium recce and there are tenders out for new Light Tactical Armoured Vehicles and motorbikes.
Javelins for the Army are practically brand new, they were only bought 2(?) years ago.

You're spot on with AD and Naval Service...however no-one cares about Air Defence; pre 2003 L60s were used and there was a massive jump in capabilities with the acquisition of the EL 70 / Flycatcher systems - consequently the government can point to that and say AD just got upgraded

Naval Service - there are tenders out for new ships but theres debate about whether enough will be aquired. However, I'll leave the NS debate to those who know more :D

Omigod, people get shouted at in the RDF for not ironing their uniform or not shaving. It wasn't like that in my day. What is the army coming to? It's not a bit like the girl guides anymore. Why can't they just be nice, those NCO's.

(Kid, go and rent 'Full Metal Jacket' and thank God you're not in the Marines!):p:D

Riddle thinks a lot about his opinions.

Last time I checked, the RDF / PDF is not a democracy. Ironing uniforms & shaving are par for the course. No one said it was fair.

    Don't like it, well boohoo

I will keep this simple for my eval of the RDF.

I have done 4 weeks this year (Paid) Not including my field days/weekends and Parade nights, I will be doing 2 more weeks paid soon. then 1 week (unpaid because my days will be gone.) then I will be doing at very least 1 more unpaid week after the Summer.

    So it is good.

I don't mind the shaving or the ironing, it's just i think it's stupid how they can charge you for it, and as for the ironing well i just said my friend was shouted at for having not having his uniform ironed evne though he had only gotten it two hours beforehand

Why would you mind shaving and ironing your uniform?
    which uniform was it?
your mate shouldn't have had the uniform on unless it was up to the standard that it should be.
    It's simple,
    A. Always
    b. Be
    C. Covered

mate its grand all this should be done but is the government supposed to pull the money out of its ass?... i mean look at the state of the roads and the health service. the only way to get the money is borrow it or increase taxes neither is a good idea..... you do know how much each javelin ricket costs dont you??

the reason for shaving and clean fingernails is more or less hygene
it is very important for moral as it prevents deseise
and if hygene is bad in barracks then it will be 10X worse in the feild

the un-ironed uniform thing sounds abit harsh
a quiet word would have been more than enough

Its mostly all down to the individual NCO, If there a warlord or just they them selves have attitude problem they can make one's life very difficult and if the PTE's act up them selves, Well thats just asking for trouble. There is a big mentallity that "If I had it tough, So will u" and If they think well being an ass wll get them promoted and a good 667. But in sayin all that there is still a standard to maintain and its up to you how to portray it.

i completly agree with this although (in my RDF experience) find the NCO's with an attitude problem or are jus thick for the sake of it are very few
and the majority want the privates to look good as they reflect directly on the NCO's particularly on the recruit camps
they in turn will get **** from the officers
and as the saying goes "S*** rolls down-hill"
