Do Traffic Control Cameras (You know the Ones on Massive Poles) also work as a means of catching people for traffic offenses, or purely as a means of regulating traffic?

    Purely for traffic monitoring.

I believe that they provide a live feed to DCC traffic control, http://dublintraffic.com/ this web site publishes the images every half hour or so.

I remember ringing DCC Traffic Control (1800-872-345 btw) to report a piece of a trunk that had fallen off in the middle of a junction. The guy zoomed in and was able to spot it and contact someone nearby to move it.

Aside: I use the above number to report faults with traffic lights e.g. blown or vandalised bulbs. They pass it onto the contractor who is quite quick to fix the problem.

They don't have license plate recognition, so they'd be pretty useless at traffic offense management. Poor foresight on behalf of the installers.

That's a job for different cameras, usually located much closer to the carriageway. these cameras are fixed and aimed so as to capture number plate images. Traffic management cameras see the whole road over a wide area.

that site would be great if they updated it more than every 30mins, every 5mins now that would be great.
