CD restorer options

I've run into a bit of a problem with pictures I burned onto CD in Vietnam. Normally I'd just go back and reshoot but in this instance its not in my budget!

I've tried the JML cleaner and my laptop is now reading about 10% of the images but the rest are proving particularly stubborn.
    Can anyone recommend another option?

    What happened to the CD?

Not sure, it was in the case the whole time but when i checked it recently it was all smudged and smeared. The jml seemed to take some of the marks off it.

Maybe try a plastic polish. Any chance it will burn to another copy? I used dremel polishing compound to polish scratches out of a mobile screen.

It used to be said that polishing a scratched cd with toothpaste could work wonders. I've never tried it so can't vouch for it but it seems like you don't have much to lose if you can only get 10% of your pics from it.

Most toothpastes have an abbrasive, which I couldn't imagine would have a positive effect on a CD. I wash mine in warm, soapy water, if needed. Failing that, I'd polish, as suggested by Borderfox.

Try a different drive, I have noticed that If I burn a CD in asia and try using it on a dvd drive at home it wont work, using an older cd drive usually does the trick.

i have recently got a program call cd recovery toolbox free and used it on a badly damaged cd and it recovered all the files from the cd i think you should try it.

I'd certainly try the software solution first after cleaning with Borderfox's method. The toothpaste solution would be a last resort. As I said in my post I've never tried it but have heard down the years that it works. Heres a link to a site that I came across which might throw more light on the subject.
