Passat Airbag warning light

Passat 1.9 TDI latest model, outside warranty.
The airbag warning light stays on.
This started last week without any changes done to the car.
The fuse list does not show anything relating to airbags.

Any ideas on what I should do before going to VW garage and possibly being charged to correct something simple which I could do myself?.

Something has obvioulsy triggered it and you would really need a diagnosis to confirm the cause.
A VW garage may be cheaper if not better than a dealer!

common fault. under the passenger seat make sure there is no loose wire. just to be sure squeeze them all. its usually caused by peoples legs kicking off it
