Well a serving member here couldn't discuss pay matter's unfortunetely.

i can't common on the enlisted ranks, but the commisioned ranks are on par with the private sector and when all the various allowances are taken into account are actually better off than the private sector. A newly commisioned cadet with a degree will be earning over 40k now. Don't the ARW get the same basic as the PDF but with an additional ARW allowance? I think this information is all public anyway

true,i could understand their frustration, after all the training and being among the best, and not to be reimbursed for entering more hostile conditions than regular troops.
additional money is available to increase the weekly allowance of e 143.01 per member on top of the basic salary paid to the 100-strong elite unit.

Private security companies offer salaries of more than €2,500 per week to experienced ex-ARW members to serve as so-called ‘‘shadow guards’’ on valuable cargo passing through European ports.

Ex-rangers can command more than €1,000 per day in Afghani s tan and Iraq, although only a small number are believed to have accepted such high-risk contracts.

ARW troops face heightened risk of injury due to demanding training and duty. All soldiers who joined the army after the introduction of a new system of contracts must now pass rigorous fitness levels at five and 12-year junctures or risk their contracts being revoked.

Can you imagine the Sh1t a currently serving ARW-member could get in if they came onto the Internet, Saying they are ARW and then going on to complain about Pay conditions. (And dont be fooled you are not given any level of Privacy here, If the Authorites get a Subpoena (To find someone by IP) for the Servers then Boards.ie will honour it.

Because its not a soldiers place to discuss pay matter's in a public forum like this.

To get into these matter's properly is beyond anything which could be covered here anyway as details such as allowances, tech pay etc would mean discussing troop numbers, those serving in various tech positions - those entering the ARW with tech pay and losing it for various reasons - etc.

Its beyond the scope of what a serving member of the defence forces could disclose, even if that member has never served in the ARW.

    Its a big discussion.

And if a member of the ARW contacted the media in relation to pay matter's, that person is a fool.

just like any serious job you taking care of your future and possibly wife/kids, everybody wants to be adequately rewarded for the hard work they do why not the armed forces? and i could be wrong, but i would say serving with the ARW or even the PDF would probably be one of the hardest jobs u can do in this country...

Money was not the reason I joined the army but obviously as you get older and your needs change money becomes an issue so in the army you can progress up the ladder and be well compensated. The ARW allowance is very good these days and the lads truly deserve this.
