Anyone know a way of transporting a bike from Oxford to Cork? I'm trying to avoid the €500 specialists and my license won't allow me to drive in the UK.

Get a mate to ride it back?

But to be honest between flights over, petrol, ferry back, long bike ride (4+ hours), possibly overnight accomodation at the port, it would probably work out at close to 500.

If you could get someone in the UK to ride it as far as Fishgard or Holyhead you could get a day trip foot passenger ticket for about £20 and a single bike fare for about £120. Then get the boat across and meet them in the port. You would have to pay for their return ticket to Oxford or wherever of course. I don't know what a train single for you to get from from Cork to Rosslaire or DunLaoghaire is but a ticket to Oxford is about £70 Stg.

Single from Cork to DunLaoghaire £30
    Foot passenger ferry - £20
    Bike Ferry - £120
    Fuel - £45
Rail ticket to Oxford - £70
    Total - £285

Plus a few quid for food and a bottle for whoever is doing you the favour of riding to the ferry. All in for about £330Stg. Not a huge saving but its nearly Eur 100

As you said - not worth it, really. 100 won't cover the hassle, time off work, killing yourself to get places on time, etc. Are you sure you're being quoted Eur 500 for carriage?
If yes, and it's a valuable bike - it's worth it.
If no, maybe try these guys - they brought two bikes in for me for.............Eur 400?? for 2. (been a while, tbh, and collection was from 2 different ends of UK as well !)

How about just getting them to deliver to the Ferry port?

Any idea of what the ferry costs for a car or transit connect & bike trailer. Website is on the blink.

    About 170 each way.......= 340 = worth it? I'm not so sure.
