I've been having something of a quarter life crisis lately and I'm thinking about jacking in my civil service job and going into social care, primarily special needs. does anyone have any advice on how i can get work experience in the field? I have already signed up for volunteer work with the simon community and the special olympics.
also, i'm thinking of maybe doing a fetac special needs assistant course before going back to study my degree. does anyone know if fetac courses are worth doing or are they just a waste in time?

Fetac courses are an excellent way to introduce you to writing essays and giving you a good foundation to what to expect for a degree course. Most will also require you to do some sort of work experience so it will let you decide if this is really the career for you. That being said if you do want to get your degree you may feel that doing a year or two of a Fetac could have been a year or two towards your degree. Good luck :)
