Modifying old PC to create a HTPC

    Hi guys
I'm a total noob at this so please be gentle. I've read thru tons of stuff on this forum but keep getting confused...

I have a PC I'd like to change into a HTPC for my box room.

    The spec is

Dual core 2.66mhz Intel Pentium 4
    Nvidea Geforce 7600 GT 256mb
    300GB Hard Drive
    Windows Professional SP2
    19" Monitor

I want to connect it up to an NTL connection that will be fairly straightforward to use.

I'd like to know what kind of TV card I can get that will do this?
Everyone seems to have an MCE OS. Can I do it with XP Pro?

If it works out I'd like to upgrade my monitor and get tv remote functionality but want to see it in action before I expand its use.

    Can anyone help me?

    Thanks

Peformance wise, the the machine is up to the job, but I'd be worried about heat with the Dual Core, especially in a small case. Whats the noise like out of it?

OS wise, XP Pro is fine. You can run GB-PVR, Mediaportal or the commercial product Beyond TV from SnapStream, amongst others.

If you plan watching NTL digial, then really will need to suck it up and get a remote. The reason is that the receiver for the remote, also contains remote beads to control the NTL box. Card wise the Hauppage PVR150 is the most common.
