I'm in Celbridge, but pointed at the Tallaght mast (better LoS), so I'm not much use to you. Bar my one issue (which I've mentioned in a few posts here .. major packet loss & 10% upload speed all being dismissed as "contention" despite strong evidence to the contrary), I've had no problems with the broadband side of Metro. The phone service has almost always failed for me (inbound and outbound), but the Sky boxes (multiroom) connect after a few attempts, so that's me happy.

One other thing; there is a peak-time variance in pings. The pings don't go too high, and usually there's no packet loss, but the variance can be 50-100ms. I find playing UT3 online, that variance is an issue. The high pings themselves don't seem to be that much of an issue, but the variance certainly is. It's generally fine, but can be quite bad on some evenings. I'd imagine Maynooth is much less subscribed than Tallaght, though, so that might not be an issue at all for some time.

AFAIK Maynooth has never had the other past issues with Three rock or Tallaght.

P.S. The less users the lower the contention. But unlike Mobile phone Broadband Digiweb does limit contention by refusing to add customers when a sector is full.

People tend to only find the Boards BB forum if researching BB or having a problem. The people that just get it and it works have never heard of this forum. :)

Have you tried a €4.50 phone handset from Argos CGarvey? I found the really expensive Siemens that Chorus gave me didn't work and cheapest Argos and Tesco phones did.

I don't disagree with Watty's points above, but you should be aware he works for Digiweb!

I'd like to make clear I've never used Metro in Maynooth. I've used Metro since it launched in Limerick at home. It wasn't till some time later I started work in Digiweb.

No Internet system is perfect and customers on any networks of any ISP can have a problem or never have an issue. I don't work in sales or support. All i can say is I haven't heard ever of any problems on Maynooth.

Watty, since you work for Digiweb, can i ask you a question?

does digiweb have the 30day cancellation policy where if the customer is not happy can cancel the service?

i was a ice customer and have seen all kinds of problems, so just dont want similar service and eircom is expensive, so digiweb is the last option i have here

Ask sales. I really don't know. I think unlikely on Metro as it is a box (radio) bolted to wall or chimney outside and coax to an internal Modem.

If they don't get a good signal you won't be installed and account will be cancelled. There used to be an offer to pay for a year and get free install.

It's a totally different technology / system to Ice, Clearwire, Ripwave.

i thought they were similar to ICe and Irish BB - WimAx technology

Have u considered Irish Broadband a colleague of mine uses them and is on their Maynooth highsite and is happy with them, though they could be dodgy at the moment given what has happened with them lately.

I presume he is referring to the recent acquisition of IBB by Imagine.

IBB have been crap for me in Maynooth since after Christmas.

I've gotten 1800ms ping time once and found it at 800ms on more than one occasion.

Speeds regularly drop to half a megabit on a 2megabit connection.

No, Metro uses Cable broadband (DOCSIS 2.0) except with microwave links between the base and subscribers, rather than actual cable. The modem is a cable broadband modem. The antenna just switches between communication across microwave and coax (to/from the modem).

However, I'm not an expert, so there might be other particulars about the service. The main point is that it is really not the same sort of offering as other wireless services; it is a normal broadband service that happens to use wireless links in part of the network, rather than being simply a wireless broadband service.

    what happened with Irish BB?

They laid off alot of staff a few weeks ago, so service quality may suffer
