'The Skids' - Their big hit was a song called 'Into the Valley'. Great band and they come from around the same time as Wellar.

Footnote: 'Into the Valley' is the song played at the start of every Charlton athletic home game. Sh1t team, but good song.

Paul Weller's solo stuff? Or the Jam, or the Style Council? All quite different.

Try Ocean Colour Scene. A couple of them play/played in his backing band.

The Jam - try Joy Division, Gang of Four, Elvis Costello's early stuff.

Style Council - I'd give this a miss tbh.

Solo - like the above said, Ocean Colour Scene. Also Charlatans.

For his influences, check out the Small Faces, The Who, Traffic and Skip Spence.
