    Hey folks,

From what I've heard, the latest Creative Zen flash player can be had in a 32GB size. What is the quality of the player like, and do I need to install software or is it UMS?

If it's not so nifty, would any of ye recommend me another flash player with that capacity??

    I've a 32GB Ipod Touch, and it's frikkin awesome!

Ah cheers for that. The iPod family does have the serious disadvantage of needing iTunes to transfer music, but it's another option to consider:). A pricey one I imagine.

    Any other suggestions welcome!

Sandisk sansa View? it comes in 32gb (not that i'm recommending it or anything though)

You could also buy a 16gb Cowon D2 which has a SDHC slot (similar to the ZEN, except it works properly) so you can add another 16gb with SD.

The ZEN is a completely mediocre DAP, it excels at nothing but is not all that bad either, it works on the mtp protocol so if you use windows you may not need any additional software.

You can use MediaMonkey instead of iTunes or Windows Media Player for all these players.

I got the new Creative Zen 32GB and so far no complaints. Lovely looking player, and tiny! But just a few small things...

1 - I listen to the radio on it a lot but it can be annoying on this cos when you hit the back button (to maybe set a sleep timer, browse something else on the player) it shuts the radio off!! Very annoyying
2 - as for the sleep timer - setting it keeps it set! Kind of annoying, cos if you set it for 30 minutes going to bed then the next time you turn on the player you've to remember to turn the sleep timer back off or you'll be wondering why the player dies after 30 minutes!
3 - you can't record from the radio as far as I can see
4 - movies / tv shows have to be converted (software provided), can't just be copied directly to the player

But these are minor points. Great player otherwise. And the SD card is handy too - you can keep your movies / tv shows / photos or whatever else on the SD card and just update your card and keep your music separate on the player itself.

I personally wouldn't touch an iPod / iTouch (no radio and other things I don't like about them) and can't speak for many other players (had an iRiver before this and loved it) but so far I'm happy with this.

Do you gave a source for the 32GB Sansa View or the 16Gb Cowon D2? Thanks!

Oh, and sorry - to actually answer your 2 original questions...

The sound quality is ok. Nothing special. But then again that may be down to the fact that I've all my mp3s ripper at 128kbs, which I now kinda regret. I went for the creative in ear headphones too and the sound quality is fine. Note the lack of over enthusiasm, but I'm not disappointed either. 'Tis grand like. But one thing I did notice is that I do find myself turning this up a bit louder than I used to with my old iRiver, but maybe I'm just going deaf...

And I'm not sure about whether you can use without first installing the software; I went and just installed the software straight off. But I'm guessing you can. So no help there either!

By source do you mean place to buy or release confirmation?

As far as I know the 16gb D2 is available in the US so far and in the Netherlands, Czech Republic... no official word when it will land here. I do know that one of the dutch sites delivers worldwide though.
Here's my post on the subject anyway: http://www.dapreview.net/comment.php?comment.news.4285

In regards to the View, again I know it is available in the states but have never looked for it over here as it does not appeal to me in the slightest...

Ouch, not recording from the radio is a bit of a downer. I had a Cowon D2 8GB but it had an unfortunate end when someone accidentally stepped on it! I found the capacity to be not nearly enough for my needs, but the ability to record was excellent. The reception was terrible though. How do ye find the reception on the Zen 32GBs??

To be honest the reception isn't perfect. It's not terrible either but it could be better. I'm pretty sure it was better on my iRiver, but I could be wrong. It's fine when I find the right spot on my desk for it or when it's sat in one place but travelling on the luas it goes in and out.

After a week and a half too the battery doesn't seem to be brilliant. Have had to charge it a few times already. Getting less than 10 hours I reckon. Spec says it should get 30 hours and all other reviews seemed positive so maybe I'm just not charging it fully...

But all in all I'm still happy with the player.
