    hi,

    say i was to buy a house under my name and then some time later add my girlfriend to the deed/mortgage or whatever and she did likewise. i assume this is ok and doesn't require me to pay stamp duty?

    You can't get around your stamp duty liabilities like that...

    ok well how does it work then? because wouldn't the stamp of already taken place? if i get married or want to add a name to deed whats involved ?

    Nice idea, but you're not the first person to think of it I can tell you.

    That avenue's well shut and you'll find it very hard to find a solicitor that would facilitate this type of transaction.
