    Hey guys and gals!

I have an SF backpack archery case, its well padded and fairly strong but what im wondering is dose anyone know are they good for traveling with on a plane?

If there not dose anyone have any suggestions as to how I could safely pack my archery gear and bring it on a plane?

    Cheers!

Most airlines have a must go in the hold policy when it comes to anything that can be classed as a weapon so there's no way in hell you'll make it on as hand luggage. You generally just have to pad the crap out of it, check it in and pray.

You should have no problem with the SF bag. And when you come to the checkout just say its a ruck sack. Don't mention anything about archery.

I've flown lots of times with the Aura bag which is very similar.

    Going anywhere nice?

You'd think the X ray scanner would pick up the archery gear...

It looks nothing like a archery gear while in a bag.

I've been away with the national team lots of times and no one has been stopped. Once its checked in they dont care.

My bad, I though he was saying to check it in as hand luggage:D

Wow, I didn't realise he was asking that...

You would have to be crazy to even try.

Emm for the record Im not talking about bringing it as a carry on! Im not stupid!
So if the SF bag is checked in it should be ok?

Yeah they are a good bag and you should have no problems. Maybe stick a sock at the top of the tube to stop the arrows rattling around. And put as many t-shirts in as possible. Just to prevent things hitting off each other.

Travelled to Croatia with my compound bow, arrows and gear. Guys at security had no problems at all with the bow and arrows but took a long hard look at the poundage gauge - apparently the spring in it was suspicious!

    Just your luck mac!
Im hopping that there wont be any problems but I may see some on ariving in Egypt, bows are considered firearms and require licences to have in the country! Luckly the IAAA had the foresight to get us all licences BEFORE we go away.

The place you are going to takes care of all the licences and that. Just dont go waving your bow around at the airport and you'll be fine I'm sure :)

Mpre a point of information than a worry-mongering ploy but ..........

Its relatively common (and I mean relative to all luggage, so still pretty rare!) that bows get thieved at airports. The Swedish Field team had a few stolen and Dave Cousins and a few americans had a few nicked on the way to the world field 2 years ago. This goes on behind the scenes after checking it in and then waiting like a knob at the baggage claim.

If ye have time, its no harm to have yer gear insured on the house insurance - costs bugger all in addition to the house insurance and gives piece of mind when travelling. Won't help at the competition / training but at least the finantial hit is lighter.

But like I said - chances of it happening is slim, but slightly above regular luggage!

One step ahead Mac! Got my bow insured months ago!
I will mention it to the others tho!

Might also be a point to note down any registration numbers on the bow or limbs. Just in case

You're grand, good bit or padding with your clothes, a lock and nothing shaped like a pistol or detonator in there and you'll be fine. Make sure your name and address is on the case as well, just in case it goes into the luggage mountain at Heathrow.

Think about insurance and the likes for the future though if you'll be doing a lot of away games.
