Cathal's Breathing

I've recently switched from NewsTalk to Morning Ireland for my Morning commute to work. It's a much better show, imo.

One thing that is irking me though, is Cathal McCoille's breathing into the microphone when he's interviewing people.

When the interviewees are talking, all you can hear in the background is his nose whistle.

    It's so off-putting.

People who listen on normal radio might not notice, but in earphones it's very definitely there.

    Anyone else notice this?

Personally I find Áine Lawlors constant "mmmmmm" when other people are talking more annoying.

    None of them things.

Just breathe deeply in and out through your nose, normally.

It's like he's pressed up against the mic doing this.

    Annoying it is.

I too have moved back to Morning Ireland but can't say I've noticed that noise.

Matt Coopers nose used to whistle, but I've not tuned into him in a while, so not sure if it's still the case.

Maybe Cathal is bored by the people he is interviewing that he's falling asleep[ just not asleep long enough for the whistle to turn to a snore ]..or maybe its the kettle boiling in the background.

It was very noticable and irritating on the car radio this morning. Constant breathing into the mike and while Paul reynolds was doing a piece on a drugs trial there was a mouse constantly clicking in the background. Aine lawlor clearly wasn't listening to him and when he finished his last sentence she said err..ummm and he had to give her the details over again. Very unprofessional.

    +1

The inane conversations and text-ins over on Newstalk got to me eventually. I never noticed McCoille's breathing, but I'm sure I will now. Cheers :(

It is like when the lip-synch is off on TV - you mightn't notice it until someone points it out - then it is suddenly unwatchable!

Whoever the eejit is who does the sound desk on Morning Ireland needs to get a good kick up the jacksey! Sometimes he opens the mike 30 seconds before the end of a report and you can clearly hear the next announcer breathing away to themselves.

I also find it a bit annoying the way Aine Lawlow often sniggers at things that are important!

Heres a first from this poster ! I actually LIKE Morning Ireland ! Good professional show with MacCoille, Aine Lawlor and that John Murray as particularly good.

Have to disagree with previous posts re Aine Lawlor - she is a good tough interviewer without the David Hanly agression (Whatever happened to him ?)

The Crown saying nice things about RTE !! - Must be getting soft !!!!

Never noticed the background noises but........

And me. Testament to the quality of my car stereo I guess.

    Or else he's really loud.
