So its 9.30 am and I'm getting on the on the dart at the front car. the door opens and I'm greeted by a CIE staff member who wont let me on the front car.

"This car is reserved" he said "please move to the next one."

I did so, I didn't mind, although the train was a little crowded for 9.30 am.

I got thinking then... I wonder how they went about that? who was it reserved for? did someone buy 90 tickets and tell CIE they want a whole car for themselves?

this train arrived at Kilbarrack station at 9.30am and was coming from Howth.

I think its a bit silly that someone would be allowed to reserve an entire car on what is essentially a public service?

anyone with more info please post

    G.

Well maybe this is different but its also a public service, every time I'm heading to dublin from limerick or wherever I prebook my seat so I can be guranteed to have a seat and be near my friends or who ever.
Handy service but you always get some one who gets annoyed about it etc...

Though I suppose the DART is more of a commuter service and I would imagine it would be very annoying having to book a seat every day.

I wonder if it's something like a scout troop, tourist group or something that've pre-booked it. Not a bad idea if they want to keep everyone together... especially if dealing with young / special needs people perhaps?

I'd doubt they'd be able to do it during rush hour(s) though.

I suppose it is a good idea if there were a couple of hundred kids getting on board. i wouldnt fancy being in the same car as them... very loud and very irritating

Back when I was in school we had pre-booked cars for some trips, Mosney being one I remember - although never during the commuter time period!

to get to mosney wouldnt you have to use an intercity train? You can book seats on that. Not sure about booking seats on a DART/Suburban train

Before Christmas I was on the dart after 6pm and the front car was reserved by Abbey Travel according to a CIE staff member. It probably happens every so often.

Maynooth to Connolly was more than likely on a Commuter at the time of day we'd be travelling it; but it was probably a Dundalk train to Mosney - is that Intercity or Commuter?
