Does anyone know how to get into the fire brigade in the airport??? nnot just Dublin Airport but all of them??? I would be very interested in joining it but I cannot find anything on the internet in how to get into it, can anybody else shed some light on the subject.

Not sure if this is where I should have posted this thread but if it isn't I guess it will just get moved.

think prob most of regional airports will advetise in local papers, not to sure in bigger one like dublin an cork
u prob get trained up in fire an security . thats usually what they do , that can be from workin on xray machines to chuckin bags , to be trained in avation fire .
worked in one of the smaller regional airport b4 , money was ****e , so my advice is keep an eye on the papers for positions

To join the Airport Police / Fire Service at one of the State Airports (Dublin, Cork or Shannon) you should contact the relevant HR department by phone or email.
Recruitment is usually internal to the airports but they will advertise in the newspapers when vacancies can not be filled internally.

The roles of an Airport police officer / firefighter are many and varied.
The primary purpose of the Airport Police / Fire Service is to respond to any aircraft accident or incident that may occur at or near the airport. The crew will also respond to other duties during their shift, including

Response to building/hanger fire alarms on airport property
Response to road traffic accidents on airport property
Response to medical emergency cases at the airport or on incoming aircraft

    Police duties would include

Securing of airport property and aircraft
    Traffic management
    Crowd control
    VIP escort duties
Meeting inbound aircraft to deal with problem passengers

    Any questions?

    Cheers for that Mark

Question: If the airport police had an irate/drunk/violent passenger on a plane, who does the arrest? Airport Police or Gardai? If its Airport Police are ye required to go to court?

If the offence is still being commited on the ground the Airport Police can arrest. If the offence was commited in the air the Gardai will be required to make the arrest.

Usually information regarding the severity of the incident will come through ATC and appropriate response can be decided beforehand.

An Airport Police Officer would usually be required to go to court if s/he makes an arrest.

Sorry for repeating but I updated this post.

Minimum education requirement is Leaving Cert. Having third level education, a trade, airport or airline experience, other emergency service experience, military experience or other relevant work experience would be a bonus. There are aptitude tests and an interview process.
You need to be physically fit to pass the relevant fitness tests.

I won't go in to pay and conditions here but they are in line with other emergency services.

As regards the interview, you should:

Have your homework done on the airport you are applying for.
Find out as much as possible about the Airport Police and Fire Service.
Use the internet to research Garda recruitment, DFB and other Fire Service Recruitment and Paramedic recruitment - The interview and testing process is similar for these jobs and there is more information out there on them.

Well if Airport Police arrive first they liase with Captain of Aircraft and on inforamtion received decide whether to arrest ot not.

Airport Police use Section 33, Air Navigation and Transport Act 1988, which gives power of arrest to authorised officers within the Aerodrome only.
It is a very powerful act and a lot of Gardai do not even know about the legislation.

    Authorised Officer = Airport Police
