I have a PS3 problem just with the games not with DVDs. It will read the discs no problem and the game shows up on the menu like normal to click it, but when it starts the picture is badly distorted and grainy, can't make anything out. It happened with GTA4 and I tried the Call of Duty 4 disc and that is doing the same thing. The sound is alright but the picture is disrupted. A blue ray laser problem maybe?? I don't have any blue ray movies to try to make sure.

This is my second PS3, my first one refused to play any discs whatsoever after a while, and armed with my receipt I was able to get a brand new one from Smyths. The girl handed me back the original receipt with something scribbled on it so they would know I returned one already.

Would they give me another new one or do you only get one shot??

She said she has no trouble with dvds so Id imagine the ps3 is connected properly to the tv. Strange one. Id return it again if I were you

I have it connected up with a HDMI cable to a 32" LCD TV. It was fine last week and I brought it to a mobile home for a weekend and I had to switch the connection from the HDMI to the normal cable which is supplied in the box as it was just a normal tv. The trouble started when I connected it back up with HDMI again back home and a system restore did nothing. I may have switched it off at the back by accident when it was still on, that's the cause of these problems I think.

some of your display settings might have got reset when you went back to standard definition. check these settings to make sure they are all using HD.

Turn off PS3 and connect using HDMI.
Then turn on PS3 using the power button on console. Keep it held down for 10 seconds until it beeps twice.
It will then auto-detect the connect type and optimal resolution.

Good news! I tried the pS3 with the supplied AV cable and everything worked fine, I switched back to HDMI and sorted out the resolution for the tv and now everything is back to normal. Thanks for all your advice!
