generally the built in speakers for laptops are really rubbish.

I'd recommend getting a pair of external speakers or connecting it to the auxiliary port on your stereo.

you can buy a pair of computer external speakers in a computer store for less than 50 euro and these would be lighter too

Any mini speakers from a record shop also would do the job for you; just make sure you have a mini jack connection on whichever set you buy(What is on the end of a headphone set). A set should be got for far less than €50 so the bank won't be broken

On a related level, you can boost the audio level from iTunes by doing the following simple instructions....

Open iTunes and click on a song, then press Cmd-A; this will highlight all your library songs. Press Cmd-i and you will be asked if you wish to edit information for multiple songs, click yes. From here, you are into the "Multiple Item Information" controller and you should see two options at the bottom.

One at the bottom is volume adjust and you can set this up or down as you like. In your case, slide it to the right and your audio will be set to play louder for each song as distinct to the output of iTunes. To the bottom right, you will also have an option to select graphic equalizer settings; click on it and select "loud" and this will also lift the audio of every track saved in iTunes.

I should add that it may take your MB few moments to re-set the levels; this depends on the amount of files in your library and the file sizes to be adjusted.

another iTunes option is to set an EQ preset........turn on the EQ and up the pre-amp. Save this setting as a custom preset, and just leave it on.

If you've got Quicktime Pro, you can adjust the audio properties of whatever your listening to/viewing in Quicktime.
