Ok so i dropped my iPhone about 6 feet onto concrete and low and behold i have managed to crack the screen.. Everything works fine except i have cracks all over the glass and its very irritating and i imagine they are going to start falling off at some stage. Can anyone advise on what to do next. Its an unlocked US iPhone so i cant send it back.

Well its warranty is now void, so the best you can manage if you dont want to buy a new one is claim insurance if you have it, or see if a repair centre could do a job on it (Screen repairs tend to be expensive on a touch screen device in my experience.) fonemenders off dawson st. in dublin would be one place to ask.

would it be possible to send it back to apple to get something like this fixed and pay for it instead as its not under warranty?

I know you can send locked iPhones back to Apple for out of warranty repairs, but have never heard of anyone sending back an unlocked one.

Suppose you could book it in for repair and see what happens. I imagine it will come back with the origional software on it (ie, unlocked).

Normally most phone repair places do a full software flash on it - what i would suggest is that there is a place on georges street in dublin - the electronic repair centre or something like that. Asian guy called titus runs it and seems able to fix anything. Best bet for an unauthorised fix!

    you can send them back

There was a girl on the iphone thread sent one back via a relation in the states they charged her a couple of hundred dollars and gave her a new phone i think
I don't think iphones were here at the time but you could

A contact apple whats the worst that can happen they laugh at you
B search here for the person and find out what she did and how she went about it
