unwanted OS options at startup

    Evening all,
I just installed a new hard drive and intalled XP64bit. However on startup I am given the option of two operating systems.
"MS XP Pro 64bit" and "Windows Default"

If I dont change the selection to "MS XP Pro 64bit" then the pc wont start giving me file missing errors.

Is this the remains of a previous install? I only have one HD in the pc and this is brand new with only one partition.

How can I get rid of the unneeded option here?

I'm reluctant to flash the bios.

Any advice lads? Motherboard is MSI K9N platinum AMD. WD Raptor hard drive.

    thanks,
    Wavey.

    Thanks for the reply kaimera,

Do you mean I log into the correct OS using recovery console and run this fixmbr from the command prompt?

Is this your only installed OS, there is no other OS installed correct..

Boot into Windows XP Pro 64Bit

    Right click on My Computer

    Click Properties

    Click the Advanced Tab

    Click Startup and Recovery

Change the default to the one that you boot normally..

You can change the options to like 5 seconds if you wish, so that you can have an option.

Click Ok and then apply and reboot to test.

You can also remove it by editing the boot.ini, but do that at your own risk!!!!

    start
    Run
    msconfig
    boot.ini
    check all boot paths
