I want to get surround sound for my Xbox 360. My dvd player is the surround sound hub and there is no optical on the back, i found a converter in Maplins Electronics http://www.maplin.co.uk/Free_UK_Deli...rtor_29293.htm
that converts optical to coaxial, and had a single phono to twin phono lead to come out of the converter and into the dvd player, The guy in Maplins said i needed a coaxial lead and the phono lead wouldnt work, my dvd player does not have a coaxial input, what do i do?!

The link doesn't work but it sound like what you've found is a SP-DIF to analogue converter rather than an optical to coaxial converter.

If your dvd player has a spare coaxial input then this may be what you're looking for. It's made by KVM I think and seems to be widely available. They also make the opposite configuration coaxial --> optical too.
