Autofocus Test

Is there any way to officially test an autofocus ? At the moment my F80 is focusing in and out but doesn't settle regardless of the target or weather I'm suing continuous or single.

Could it be the batteries ? there is only 1 bar left but the shutter will release. Additionally if it is broken where could I get it fixed & how much will it cost?

It's not set to Al Servo is it? Or when you say it's focussing in and out, do you mean like in low light where it is trying to find focus?

I tested another lens and another camera... it seems that it thinks that it is already autofocused .. when on manual focus the little 'in focus' light is lit up even if the lens is not focused...
