Looking into something someone highlighted to me on a taxi forum and just wondering if any readers who use Shannon Airport can confirm or deny it.

Basicly as a hangover from the days prior to dergegulation Shannon was only realy serviced by what you would call hackneycabs, i.e prebooked, no meter and no roofsigns, one of the contributers reckons that the cars there are advertised (with a roof sign but no plate number) as Airport Cabs and that if you want a cab you have to use the airport cab desk ( recent change of title from Taxi desk ) so just wondering if anyone can confirm or deny that the cars are using roofsigns or if (and how) the desk is signposted etc.

Also Cross posted to Regions/Mid West/Clare Please Amend to whichever forum you feel is best

ive heard this alright .it seems that there are hackneys going around with roofsigns and no meters or printers .apart from the legal aspect [its illigal to display a roofsign or advertisement on a private hire hackney] could this not be where the driver could rip off any potential customer with an off the wall charge and thus make a mockery of the whole metered fares that the taxi regulator introduced .now im not from this part of the country but i can see how this system could be exploited on the tired tourist after coming off a long haul flight .btw why cant shannon have a normal taxi rank like dublin airport .whats the story there?? surly its in the interest of the tourist landing in shannon to be able to get a taxi with the fare metered and displayed instead of what imo is some sort of makey up of a so called taxi service .i cant understand how [if it is the case ]that the taxi regulator with her [driving forward ] lets this happen
