Reading lots and lots of reviews about this little amp, has anyone here every used one? Is there any shops in town that sell crate?

I think I saw crate amps somewhere in town but my memory is $%£ lol...

Most Crate amps you will find will be ****e - because they are solid state, and Crate make crappy cheapo solid state amps. But their valve amps have a good rep, and like you I've heard good things about the Palamino. I do most of my shopping (and window shopping!) online, I haven't seen a Palamino anywhere but this looks pretty close.

Waltons sell Crate amps, but only solid state AFAIK. But if you ask they should be able to at least get you a Crate valve amp. I'm not sure if they still sell the Palamino.

Also, you might want to look at Blackheart amps, they have been compared to Palaminos and are also have a Crate logo so there must be some connection there.

now to decide between that and a fender blues junior, the price difference is makin me lean towards the crate at the moment but im back and forth trying to find an amp... Cant make up my mind and end up spending the money... A vicious cycle lol...

Let me know how you get on, my budget is around €350-400 and I'm looking for a low-watt valve amp combo. It's important to me that it has a decent speaker size, so it has be 1x12.

I'm looking at the Crate V18, the Laney LC15, the Blackheart Handsome Devil, the Peavey Valve King and the Peavey Windsor studio. I'm kinda leaning towards the Crate too. If only the Blackheart had a spring reverb...

At the moment I'm playing through an old all-valve Peavey Bandit 112, great tone but at 50watts just too loud. I can't really push it, even in a gig situation I rarely get the volume above 2.

I was playing a Gretsch Electromatic G5222 in music maker today, best low watt tube amp I've found. Think I'm gonna go with that, a tube screamer and a reverb pedal and I'll be set for life.

Such a basic amp, you shape the tone entirely with your guitar although I'll probably invest in an eq pedal.

I didn't know Peavey made an all valve Bandit...you sure about that? Someone mentioned this to me before, trying to sell an "all valve" Bandit. I didn't believe them at the time that there was such an amp.

Well **** - maybe you're right, I can't find any reference to a Bandit with valves on the net  This is an 80s model, I think, maybe the Bandit 65..?

This is a mate's amp, I've used it maybe 3 or 4 times for a few hours at a time, it sure sounds like a valve amp. I used to use a Marshall JCM800 for years, the other guitar player in the band is using an ENGL 50w combo, and tone-wise this Peavey is not too far off. I have played Harley Benton (yeah, I know), Fender and Hughes & Kettner solid state amps - and a new Peavey Bandit - and none of them sound like a valve amp (the H&K is the only reasonable one out of them).

I've been playing a long time, but never really been a gear-head. I know that at least two other guitar players, a lot better and more experienced than me, accepted that this was a valve amp without comment, as I did, but without looking closely at it. I'll get to use it again next week, I'll have a closer look to confirm, but I'm starting to suspect you're right.

Hey, if you like it, that's all that counts.
