My burden of depression

    Hi,

I'm not sure if this topic belongs in After Hours.

This is my first post. I just wanted to share my burden of depression hoping it will help me.

I am depressed. At the moment I feel like crying. I feel life is dark, there is little joy. Society depresses me. The media depresses me. I don't know why I'm depressed. My gut feeling is that it's strongly influenced by environmental factors. I've been on antidepressants for 6 years now, effexor. Sometimes I feel great but depression is very difficult to shake off and it always seems to come back.

I hope I haven't made you depressed now.

That's all I want to say, I appreciate if you took the time to read this, I feel like i'm easing my depression by telling people.

    Thanks

Well when I think about that again maybe it's just because I'm so depressed that everything in life looks dark and gloomy i.e. society etc.

Do you want to be off anti-depressants? Have you tried being off them?
Are you under care of a psychiatrist?

I think staying on them at the moment is the best option. I'm under care of my doctor. I'm already feeling better chatting to you about it.........thanks for caring.

I ask because I've been diagnosed for depression before and on anti-depressants, my case is different though cos I never felt I was genuinely depressed. You clearly do. If it's 'endogenous' depression then I suppose you need to find the best treatment, if it's reactive(to environmental factors) perhaps you could think about CBT(Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) it deals with changing thought processes to help people's mood.

Yes I have tried CBT in thepast and it is very good, particularly with environmental factors. I will give CBT a go again and hopefully it will help. I'm going to bed now :-) Thanks
