MiG welder in aldi

    any one know if this welder would be good enough to weld 2 - 4 mm box iron together for a gate , nothing fancy . 6 ft long 3ft high .any ideas ?
    the welder is a no gas turbo fan cooled MiG welder 25 - 130 amps with a 13 amp plug .any helpful advice would be great .:)

    It probably would but it's a rubbish welder. The wire feed unit is meant to be very bad.

    Have a look at http://www.wolf.ie/view.asp?id=283&name=Welding%20Equipment they are the same company as power craft, which Aldi sell. I was jumping to get the aldi one until I had a look around and saw that it really isn't that great. I have used Mig and arc before and I will probably buy a cheap arc one for light stuff sometime soon.

    Clarke are one of the better manufacturers for hobby welders.
    Expect to pay around 500 euro for a high amp one.

    You can get a "quality" brand for another 200 euro odd. The portamig 185 costs around 700 euro.

    It uses flux cored wire.
    The flux provides the shield.

    Also the bods on this welding forum say its not a good buy.

    When the flux is heated it turns into a gas thus shielding the area around where you are welding.
