    Anyone here this unconfirmed rumour?
Have it from a good source that it's tax related but can't imagine Desmond would be this careless. I would usually just laugh of such a claim if it were not for the source.

heard this a week or so ago from 2 different places... presumed there was no truth in it and it was unconfirmed..... others heard same... really hope it's not true...

heard nothing about the tax thing and I'm sure thats not the case and if it is closing it for other reasons....

I heard this recently as well, but only in relation to the poker room. Pure rumour status yet though in my opinion.

They just posted a new tournament schedule which suggests it's not the case

makes sense for them to close it if they can fit more people into the space full of roulette and brag tables.

Sad though, nicest place to play in Dublin in my opinion, I'd imagine it also introduces a lot more new people to the game than any other club does due to its location and more casual atmosphere

well if it is to closed, it must have been decided very recently. As they've plans for a festival in August and November of this year and a new schedule only release in the last couple of weeks. But 4 pokerrooms in Dublin is probaly 2 to many.

So, nothing more then speculation it seems. No one can produce anything more then "I heard from someone" and they are still planning away on festivals etc.

I think we can call this myth busted.

    DeV.

John and Alex read and post here so perhaps they can confirm or deny this?

That would be right..... it would take the place to close to get a decent bite to eat

Poker will remain but 2nd floor will no longer be dedicated solely to poker.
Sporting Chronicle will vacate ground floor and a restaurant will be installed.

Seems to me that everywhere (poker, non-poker) is gonna start feeling a pinch from the global economy downturn. this is a totally lay observation, i used to be asleep in economics in college :o Around where i live i've heard of full housing developments still unsold, cab drivers saying it's very quiet, shops relatively quiet etc. I dont know how reliable this story is, but my last cabbie told me his friend bought a house for 520k not long ago in a housing development and identical houses in the 2nd phase are being sold for 100k less.

I cant see how poker will escape unscathed, i would have thought if anything it'd be more susceptible to be hit by an economy downturn. The lay fish pool will decrease in volume over the coming months as the pressure on their disposable income increases, thereby affecting the food chain. i.e. less people floating in to the casinos for a gamble and/or sticking a few quid onto online poker. Also imo the poker industry might be close to saturation or at the very least in a decline from the peak of the boom it experienced.

Things go up and they go down but poker so far has only ever been going up.....All of the stats that I have seen show that there are more people than ever playing both online and live poker.

If this does take a turn downwards it is not the end of the world, in fact it is probably better for the really good playes as imho, the first to stop playing will be the medium to good players, leaving just the punters and the very good.....same way as if the price of houses goes down a little (or a lot) you have to just get on with things (it doesn't suit those that own a house but it does suit those looking to get their foot in the door).....

Well observed. TBH anyone who thinks these woes are going to stop at a "pinch" is an absolute fantasist. When people like George Soros and Warren Buffett are talking about the end of an era and Peak oil its time to wake up. Western civilisation is possibly on the brink! I'm upping my drug and alcohol regime and will try and enjoy these interesting times.

I heard business is failing because Murat and Jon Katkin haven't been in as much. Murat has left and Jon is leaving at the end of July...then the bottom will hit!
