Help with DivX CD

I'm not sure where to post this. I'll try here first. I have a Mac Book. I have avi and mpeg video files on my hard drive. My dvd player can play DivX videos so I want to convert these videos to DivX and burn them as a playable file to CD if under 700MB and DVD if over. That way I can watch the movies on my TV. I attempted this using Roxio Toast and it's native DivX options and it seemed to work. But quarter of the way into the movie it stopped. What's the best way to make playable DivX disks and how should I convert these movies to DivX? Is there an application or method that does this all in one.

If you're playing them on a standard DVD player why must they be in .divx format ? Why not just make standard DVDs from them ? I use ffmpegx for converting formats and it's very reliable.

What version of Toast are you using by the way ? Did you try burning another file to divx - it might just have been a bad file and/or disc you used !?

    Go to http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/?cid=DP0000279

Best product - give it a trial - use the converter - and then just burn Data DVD's - way quicker and you dvd player should like it better!
Also read the support boards there.

I'm using Toast 9. The reason I want the movies as DivX is smaller file size. I can put a few movies on one DVD disk or 1 movie on a CD.

Ah ! Gotcha, then the poster above made a good suggestion. Also the app I linked to - ffmpegX - will also do the conversions for you which you can then burn to a data disc.
