I have the earphones that came with the ipod, though I've heard they aren't much use, is this true ? should I invest in a new set ?

I find they are the balls, by comparison to other sets of earphones ive used they seem to be the loudest,

now if your big into your music i.e EQ and tone quality and all that sort of thing they aren going to be upto scratch when compared with pricey earphones/headphones. In shortthey are good but my word they beak easily, then you get that awful buzz.

Invent a portable gramaphone player FTW

ipod earphones are muck, i'd say they cost about 20c to make.

just because they are the loudest doesn't mean they are good. nothing worse than hearing some idiots music on the bus/dart because they have to have the volume up full tilt to hear the music.

OP have a search around here, there has been a good few threads in IEM's (in ear monitors) which are much better.

I find that you can't listen to any bass on them at all without terrible distortion

They're rubbish. The new ones are ever so slightly better, but they seem to last only about 2-3 months before the output levels falls off.

Terrible earphones. I love my bass and I had them ruined in weeks. Back up only (or for showing off you have an iPod, and if you're that shallow you deserve the pants quality :) )

ive found ipod headphones decent enough in the past...not ****e but not awful. grand for the odd time i use my ipod when im not in my car/playing it through a stereo. same for most bud ear phones but the recent ones i have have lasted about 4 months and theyre crapping out. at this minute listening to my ipod through some sennheiser ones(these ones to be precise) and they're pretty damn cool. sound quality is very good, you really have to push the volume to get any kind of distortion and they handle bass well. i just have to buy some of my own as theyre my partners! they do bud ones too that don't cost a bomb which will probably be decent if you're looking for a similar style.

I believe anyone that thinks the ipod earphones are any way half decent must not have ears

stock buds are crap, period. There are, like, two exceptions to this rule: the zune80 and the sony A8XX series

I have a pair of sennheiser cx300s and I find them to be a major upgrade from the stock earphones

Depends on the kind of music you listen to. If you want a flat sound they are okay. If you want to hear lots of deep, low register sounds you are probably better off getting some in-ear headphones. I found sennheisers to be so-so, so currently using a higher end Sony in-ear which does give a lot more clarity and bass response (can't remember the exact model number)
