Currently morning session of day 2. New Zealand just lost 2 quick wickets to some pathetic run outs.

Oram's was bad enough, just lazy running, but Vettori's was utter madness. Would have been comfortably in had he slid his bat, but instead ended up being run out with his foot miles inside the crease, but 1 inch off the ground as the bails were taken off. Incredibly stupid, and Vettori would be the last person I'd expect to see do that.

Daft run out. DL Vettori run out (Panesar) 1 is not something to be proud of reading in Wisden :)

Penny for Daniel Flynn, who had his laughing gear rearranged by Anderson. 2 hours overnight in a dentists. OUCH. Won't bat before lunch, if at all. It looked awful. Hi motion showing his teeth flying out of his mouth was sickening. :(

    +1

that looked aboslutely terrible. his tooth flying out as he fell to the ground was sickening.

    poor guy, hope he's ok.

entertaining enough this morning/afternoon, taylor's 154 was very impressive, commentators speaking very highly of him.

TMS have reported Flynn is back at the team hotel after visiting a neurosurgeon, and still feels a bit dizzy. As to weather he will play again in this match, they'll take it day by day.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cricket/england/7418466.stm
Flynn lost a tooth when Anderson's short-pitched ball appeared to force the grille of his helmet into his face.

The Northern Districts batsman, who was forced to retire hurt with four to his name, also had a badly cracked bottom tooth, which was removed with one other tooth on Friday night.

He will have all the missing teeth replaced at the end of the match.

    New Zealand 381
    Ross Taylor not out 154
    Martin b Anderson 0

    England 49/1 (18 overs)
    Cook lbw b O'Brien 19

I know its a different game but Australia 17-4 against the West Indies:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
Taylors knock was super, England's fielding was cack and their batting was very conservative to say the least. I do expect Kp and Bell to step it up tomorrow, and lets hope for two good finishes in these games.

    IR Bell c Taylor b O'Brien 8

    England 202 all out

Broad and Anderson prevented the follow-on, NZ have a healthy lead of 179 on first innings.

202 all out England, trail by 179. Anything 150 plus by NZ in the second innings will mean they've a great chance. Even a chase of over 300 will be demanding.

Amazing England collapsed so badly there though. They were 111-1 at one stage yesterday. Lost 9-91 after that.

A 2nd innings collapse by NZ themselves means England still have a reasonable chance in this one. They closed on 76-1 chasing 294, needing 218 more for victory.

NZ lost 7-29 to subside from 85-2 to 114-9 with Flynn unable to bat. I still think they should win this one on what seems to be a wearing pitch. If Vettori fires he's likely to win it for them.

Yes good point and all that jazz but to hell with that game it all about the West Indies v Australia. Come on chase 287 down!

Yeah I'd love to see them do it. Very tall order though on a pitch with such variable bounce, their batting line-up is liable to fall apart at any time. It calls out for Chanderpaul to see them through with a few cameos around him from the likes of Bravo.

Sabina Park - Home of some happy memories...come on WI!

Reasonable start for WI in the 2nd innings, closing on 46-1. Certainly respectable compared to Australia's 18-5 at one stage. I'd say they'll still need a big innings from either Sarwan or Chanderpaul to see them home. Just thinking back a few years, they were the two that got hundreds in the world record chase of 418 the last time these sides played each other in a test in the WI.

Good morning session for England. Just one wicket down and another hundred on the board. Edging towards what would be a fairly handy victory after their 1st innings performance.

    Cue afternoon session batting collapse.

England headng with relative ease towards the target on a pitch that seems to have totally died down.

235-2, needing 59 more. Surely only one result from here, NZ look dead and buried. Vettori has been completely ineffective in the 2nd innings, looks like a different track to the one where he and Monty caused havoc yesterday.

    and strauss goes....

see what you did there Marshy!!!?:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,601 ✭✭✭Marshy

Yeah was kinda expecting another mini-collapse after I said that, at least it wasn't Vettori who got the wicket :D

Bell and Collingwood take an absolute age getting the runs, look like they're going to drag it out until after lunch, and then hit 14 off the last over to win the game. They could have done that a while ago.

    Really good win for England.

    .

A really really shocking loss by NZ

Yeah true, having been in such a strong position, effectively 264-2 in their 2nd innings, they just lost the plot completely. England came back well of course but they were really allowed back in by the kiwis.

Anyhow, time to switch attention to Sabina Park. Come on Windies!

    191 all out WI

Disappoining but not unexpected result there. None of the genuine batsman got going. So the aussies take a 1-0 lead.

Edit: just saw Ireland lost earlier by 1 run to Notts in the FP Trophy. Bad day all round I must say...

ok maybe thats gettin a bit carried away but does anyone think its a bit weird that someone can be so bad at batting??? i mean ive only been playing for 7-8 months and my footwork is better than his! still i think he can beat his test best score of 12* in the 3rd test, but imagine the scene if he made a 50!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,601 ✭✭✭Marshy

Well there's always been some pretty desperate batters down at number 11. Courtney Walsh is the famous one. He was out for a world record 43 test ducks. His defining moment with the bat was probably a crucial 0 not out off 5 balls to help Lara and the WI see off the Aussies back in 1999.
