Looking for a new club

    Need some help here...

I used to be a member in the citywest lakes course for a year. That has since expired and I'm now looking for a cheap club where I can practice my game and work on my handicap.

    Preferably close to south/west Dublin,
Grange Castle/Elm Green's membership runs from 1st Jan onwards

I could "upgrade to Citywest Championship but I don't think its great value and facilities are poor there.

Considering Wicklow or Kildare also and paying the odd green fee during the week.

Budget would be round about 1k but miiight stretch for a nice course, I'll play a lot of golf but I'm just not a great golfer yet so I don't want to waste money on an expensive membership just yet. ;)

    Any suggestions?

I joined City West (both courses) a few weeks back.. I also joined the PGA Academy for practise as City West really is brutal for facilities but the course is in great condition and you get a game with a empty course pretty much most evenings.

In saying that I can see myself wanting a club with a good practise ground next year as this was to get me back playing and to try and get my handicap sorted.

A pro I went to recently said Slade Valley is not hugely expensive anymore so it could be a option.

Slade Valley is 7500 for membership and roughly 1200 per year, bit much for where I'm at.

**** that is pretty pricey... I was going by what I was told by a pro...

I will prob be in the same boat next season as really want somewhere with decent practise facilities. Have joined the GUI Academy short game area for the summer as a stop gap.

Try Boystown just outside Blessington. Membership runs until next March. Only 800 euro to join with no hello money. Great test of golf in beautiful setting.
