Answer: no. Not needed for Sky+ alone, though is neccessary for Sky Multiroom.

WIthout phoneline, expect to pay a one-off levy of €37.50

Suppose you ring them and say "I have all the work in place" and they try to spin you some story about "connection fee" etc??. Not saying this happened to me but I wouldn't put it past them.

Hmm, you mentioned Sky+ in your original post. That is available without phoneline.

However, I'm not fully sure that SkyHD is available without phoneline, last time I checked it was not. So, McEwens ;) are probably right.

i can confirm that you do NOT need a phone line for HD.
i put it in myself and rang sky to activate it.
    (no extra cost)

So maybe it is only if you put it in yourself you dont need a phone line, where if you get Sky to do it they will insist on you having a phone line.

Yeah, I should clarify that I meant you'd need a phoneline if you were getting Sky or agents to install.

Not applicable when you already have equipment self-installed (except for Multiroom, of course).

Seems I just cant get definate answer to this have rung Sky now twice One guy said I dont need a phone line in to get Sky Hd then rung tonite and a women I got through to said I need a phone line in for defs to get Sky HD......Also some friends have divided opinions on this

From reading the above comments on those forums it seems to get SKy Plus you dont need a phone line, but you do need a phone line for Sky HD..

I am sure there is lots of homes with no phone line in them cos of mobiles nowadays and people not wanting the extra bill of a home phone..SO if Sky does insist you must have a line for HD surely they are losing lots of customars...

Well they dont really have any serious competition so no , they are not really losing any customers , NTL is pathetic in comparison , so they are pretty much all youve got.

With regards to the phoneline for HD , Ive had it since launch , and moved since , when I moved there was no phone line in the new house , we need one because we need to have reliable broadband so it was ordered , but in typical Eircom fashion it took nearly 3 months to get sorted.

During that time Sky sent many letters , about 5 I think , telling me that if I didnt connect the box to a phoneline all premium services would be stopped !

I pretty much ignored the letters , and they never actually did turn anything off , but it would seem they do require a phoneline for HD and were well aware that the box didnt have one connected.

The box was connected up as soon as we got the phoneline and the letters stopped.

Ok think cleared this up rung Sky again this morning and they have assured me that they have now chaged the terms and conditions just recently, and for Sky Plus and also HD boxes you no longer need a phone line conected, but you will need to pay extra for installation,I think something like 82 euros where if you have line is less about 45 euros or round abouts.
