i was cycling near my house and a car comes up quiet behind me and all of a sudden a big noise out of the exhaust and speeds by me and nearly hitting me

he went so fast i couldn't see the plate

i want to know why do boy racers do what they do

donuts on the roads and cause accidents

    do they love attention

was mommy not giving them much attention when they were small

    i just dont understand it

give me a bmw any day

    ill get to the point

i taught there was a law coming in to stop the big exhaust etc

    where did that go

Boy racers give us young decent men a bad name.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

bad drivers drive all sorts of cars and are spread across all age groups, there is no point trying to reason why people do stupid things, the easist conclusion is that they're idiots.

which muppets? the ones that do donuts, or the ones who drive anything that's modified?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,305 ✭✭✭Green Hornet

Little sh1ts used to do the same to me when I was cycling. They'd sneak up behind me on the road (dont know how with the 3.45 mile wide exhausts:D) and suddenly pull up beside me. Frighten the hell out of you. Believe it or not they often fired oranges and even bottles at me!

I often wondered if they did that to tourists too. Maybe they just dont like me................

yes most people on a motoring forum hate those noisy exhausts ferrari's etc..........honestly as long as theyre not breaking any laws or putting peoples lives in danger I dont think its fair to brand someone a boy racer now perhaps there are some people who are idiots and dont drive well who have loud exhausts

and re the throwing of stuff well thats just people being ba*tids
also why if such a loud exhaust were you not aware of such a car, I know that I generally realise there is somebody beside me when out cycling even when it is not a "sooped up" car, you should really keep an eye out especially if you didnt see the number plate aswell it really calls youre skills of observation into question

there are some eejits in bmws out there doing dangerous things on the n11 op, shocked by some of the moves Ive seen people pull lot of them wearing suits

the parents just keep buying the cars :(

I'm sure he'd be writing the cars off regardless of whether they were modified or not, most mods on Irish cars are purely cosmetic.
young lads are attracted to modified or sporty cheap cars, it doesn't follow that someone driving a modified car is a young lad, or someone who drives like a lunatic.

Theres no need to be jealous of a nice sounding exhaust and we all know a dead cyclist is a good cyclist! :pac::pac::D

there are a good bit of badly pimped up cars

There is genuine car enthusiasts who are into their cars and spend heaps doing them up and I know a few of them. It is just a couple of idiots out there that are tarring all these guys with the same brush. In theory the points system should rid them from the road. I find the idiot that hogs up a national road and wont pull over a worse menace than the boy racer.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 236 ✭✭MSporty

Well theres nothing like giving these lads a taste of their own medicine. Always makes me laugh when driving behind one these goons at night. They usually try to take off up the road, freaks them out when they cant get away from you. They usually give up then, some of them even beep the horn when your turning off or they are turning off the road. Apparently a sign of respect or so im told

Its a pity there are not penalty points for doing that. Convinced some of them come out on purpose in the morning and evening to hold up the traffic. Well, maybe thats pushing it a bit but they are a pain in the ass.

Isn't there a special forum dedicated to boy racers :Dhttp://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=603

To answer OP's question about "why".

It is a simple spelling error.

Spell the "racer" of boy racer as "w a n k e r" and you have your answer.

They are nearly as dangerous as women learner drivers and Motorcyclists!! ;)

What kind of car was it? I wasn't aware they could fit warp drives into standard saloons yet :pac::pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

could've been a Prius? would explain the OP not hearing anything till the driver put the boot down!

Cycling, boy racers, BMW's, fartboxes, revenge, bad overtaking, warp drives and eco cars all in the one thread?

Careful lads - this is skirting on a quantum singularity in motors. DeV would kill us if we imploded boards.

For the love of God, don't anybody mention speed cameras.

It is not a widely held belief amongst boy racers that motorists will eventually tire of them and encourage them off the road with a nudge from a pick-up truck, or pedestrains will get a sudden surge of adrenaline and hurl a rock through their window and/or plastic spoiler. However, some motorists theorise this will happen.

    FTW!:D
