Hi there, just hoping somebody could help me out on something. I have always loved photography and my hubbie was very good to buy me a camera last year. I'm looking into starting a course very soon as I promised to shoot my friends wedding and I want to be up to scratch. I have a Konica Minolta 5D which I really love.

I would be very interested though to see if this is the standard a true professional would use and also as I was told by a photographer that you should have a second camera just in case, I was looking at a fuji finepix s9600. Would anyone recommend this?

The 9600 is a good camera nice colours too!but i think you'd be better off with another konica Minolta dslr as they would have better image quaility and you'll be used to the setting

"another konica Minolta" in her case would mean a Sony dSLR as they have bought the dSLR department off KM (RIP! I still love my G500 - great camera for its time).

But, to answer your question, the 5D's technology is old hat nowadays (as with the digital age, any product that is 3 years old is old hat). But in the right hands it can take fantastic photos I suspect. Something like the s9600 might be more convenient but I would guess that the camera would be a step down in terms of flexibility and image quality.

Thanks for that. I was getting a bit worried when I read elsewhere that konica had stopped making cameras and equipment because I really do love my camera!

I did suspect that if I was to become serious I may need another camera. But I'm sure it will always stay with me as a second because it does take great shots. I will take a look at the sony cameras so.

    Greatly appreciated!

Sony have been pretty agressive in the market (the newest one - A350 - looks like the best implementation of live view in any camera yet). And lenses will be interchangable between the two cameras.

On the other hand - in the hands of a professional, even a 50 year old 35mm film camera with a prime lens can give great results (the photographer is still the most important part of taking a picture!)
