Haha, nice angle THEDRIVER, a neighbours mum had a mk1 escort VIN768,which we wrecked after it was parked up,cut the roof off and all,i still feel bad when i think of it now, as it was quite a good car,and would be worth quite a few quid now..!!:o

Mine drove a Renault 4, a car you rarely see around nowadays because they all rusted into oblivion. Then a couple of Ford Fiestas.

Um most Mums from my generation didn't drive or work.
    Mine chose to do both.
But even at that households only had one car.

It looks like we'll going back to that situation if they don't sort out some alternative to oil ASAP.

LOL i had one as me first car back in 86, twas white with a blue 'racy' stripe down the sides..... i used to ferry me mates (5, yes 5 of us...) around Greystones in it and once it did 72 MPH on the way back from Rathnew........ i bounced it off a wall near Kilcoole and that was the end of it :(

My mam drove a 1987 red Nissan Micra. It's still on the go today, her friends son bought it off her a few years back!

    Let me see...

'72 VW Beetle (shít heap, couldn't exceed 75mph!)
Ford Escort Mk1 (stolen about a month after she bought it)
Hillman Hunter (converted to diesel apparently!)
'79 Fiat Ritmo (well, both my mother and father drove that, it rusted into absolute nothing!)
'81 Ford Escort Mk3 (the engine decided to go on fire...)
'86 Toyota Starlet (stolen in 1998, when we recovered it, it had more petrol in the tank than when it was stolen! :D)
'93 Ford Sierra (first good car my mother ever had)
    '00 Mazda 626 (current car)

We also got the lend of an '87 Nissan Sunny coupé back in the early 90's (we were between the Escort & Starlet). I was fascinated with the fact it had a sun roof! Burnt oil like no other though.

My mother's first car was a mini. Then she got married and being the practical housewife she sold it so my parents could invest in a trailer for the cattle........damn Ireland in the 80's. Retarded priorities!

Now driving a volkwagen passat and it's not too shabby.

    Me want mini back though:(

Just been thinking back on this, and I've realised that my Mam is the only person in the family to have owned brand new cars!

    Anyhow:
    very early '70s - Mini
    late '70's - Fiat 128 saloon
    1988 - Toyota Sprinter
    2000 - Suzuki Ignis
    2008 - Suzuki Swift

The Toyota was the only secondhand car she's ever had, and that was only a couple of months old at the time.

My mum had a couple of little minis and then splashed out then on an old triumph spitfire for herself..

Mammies in my day only drove the car when it was home in the evenings or weekends - well, in theory, but my dad took the train to work so she drove his Fiat Uno. Was the late 90s before she got a car of her own and currently has a Fiat Panda.

We're dead original in our family, 3 Fiat Puntos and 2 Fiat Pandas amongst the parents + kids :D

My Ma had two VW Beetles - one was KZC 974, the other KID 410. She also had a Datsun Cherry - 269 DZO, I think.

Anyone know what year county those registrations are? I know the Datsun was around 1980/81, but no idea as to the age of the Beetles. My Dad has the KZC Beetle plates hanging up in his shed :D

KZC*** was issued by dublin co-council between 7/61 to 8/61
KID*** was issued by cavan co-council between 7/67 to 5/68
***DZO was issued by dublin co-council on the 6/81,it only lasted a few days as dublin ,as is the same today, was registering lots of cars very fast!!(dublin co-council went through ***AZO to ***EZO in the same month....:))Thats around 5000 cars.
Im thinking it was this version of the cherry ye had..
    81Cherry3.jpg
This is my own cherry, its a 1980 car,one of the very last of its type before the change to the one above.

Yup, it was called Zippy because the first to letters of the reg were ZP. It was a dark green colour. It was a great car, my mum took us everywhere in it! I think we had it until about 1996 and then it was scrapped and my parents bought a new car.

    Good times man, good times!

Then another Starlet after my brother crashed the first (not his fault)
Nissan Micra (Jap import)white of course!.
    Nissan Micra (not import)

    Fiesta (New)
    Another '08 Fiesta

I have to link both my parents as they both drove the same cars at different times.....

1: Triumph (not sure of the model) 70's
    2: Ford Escort late 70's - early 80's model
    3: Dihatsu Charmont (new) 1986
    4: Dihatsu Applause (new) 1991
5: 1981 Imported Ford Fiesta (we got this approx 1991) - my dad drove this for a while but then my mam got it as my dad's was transferred in work and had an hour drive so needed the better car
    From here its all mammy's
6: 1996 Ford Fiesta (which she got in 2000) - the 81 Fiesta was still running at this stage......
    7: 2004 Ford Fiesta (new) - current
