A mate of mine was just over with his 2x12 410c JVM.

I have to admit I am WELL impressed. Had a serious whack to it and the distortions were gorgeous. A LOT better than i was expecting TBH.

There is absolutely STUPID amount of gain on some of the modes but it sounds really really nice.

Anyway, since there wasnt much JVM talk I said I would throw it out there!

I am currently gigging with my JVM 410C. 100w 4 channel savage.
I admit that i have changed the valves straight away to 4 KT 77's from www.eurotubes.com Cost about €98 all in from USA.

Enough channels to do anyone. Gain goes a bit silly when up high....saturation.
I don't see what all the bad mouthing is about Marshall. If they are good enough for Angus, Jimi, Slash etc. they are good enough for me.
Tones probably come down to a personal preference at that stage. But i thought the overdrive was a bit harsh with the stock valves. What amp manufacturer ships out their amps with top notch valves these days anyway.
    Not even Mesa...!

Anyway, i like the bright sound of the Marshall and the 70's rock tone. If you can't get that tone from this amp give the guitar.....4 channels, 3 modes each... that's 12 different tones for me.

I thought about an ENGL for a while. Raving reviews.....by USA metallers....dun de de dun...etc. Not as verstitile as i expected from ENGL. The overdrive was not as bright as the Marshall. i'm sure someone will srick up for the ENGL's in a few minutes.

Although, if i was to buy again, it would be a 1x12 and not the 2x12 i have. Almost 40 kg......way to heavey.

I dunno, I much preer 2x12. I got bored with marshall there for a while but I have been putting the 30th anni and the jmp through a 4x12 with V30s and its amazing. You really need to crank them though!

Well, which Engl did you try? There's quite a few different models.

    Tried a Screamer....i think....definately a combo.

I came across a site recently that put me off ENGL.
This guy recorded some clips with his Ibanez Jem with a Marshall JCM800 and then the same with an ENGL.....not the combo's, one of the expensive heads.
I thought the Marshall was much brighter.

I can't remember the site....if i come across it again, i will post the link.
He also used the ENGL head with the Marshall cab......that was much better than the ENGL head and ENGL cab.

Found this site that put me off ENGL.
    http://www.tonymckenzie.com/
    http://www.englamps.co.uk/

This next link put me right off ENGL....download some of these and compare.

Ah yeah, well most of the time, they're not as bright as the Marshalls. Engl generally have a darker kind of sound, akin to a 5150 or Mesa Rectifier.

Yeah, listening to the clips, the Marshall cab sounds a lot better, but I'd say that's down to the cheap V60 speakers used in the Engl cab, sounds like there's a carpet thrown over the cab. Now, if it was one of the Engl Pro cabinets, which have the Celestion Vintage 30s in it, I'd say it would've been a much better comparison.

That Peavey 5150 head was going cheap......
Maybe not right for my covers band.....the JVM is spot on for that. With the PRS of course......
