Had an exam in the RDS this morning. Don't recall sealing that flap with my student number etc. Will it be OK?

Yeah, most of them come unstuck anyhow.

It's no problem. Some people leave them open on purpose.

Ah the RDS. Have an exam out there on Tuesday! It's some cattle shed isn't it! Was there last tueday too. And what was with your one looking to search my pockets? Is she actually allowed to do that?

I haven't seen them ask a girl to turn out her pockets yet..

Yeah, absolute shed, and really strange to look in front of you and see over a thousand people. No-one else seemed to notice the magpie flying around though..

I thankfully only have one exam out there this year, had it there on Tuesday afternoon. Didn't mind it too much as I was about 5 desks from the front and had left after 40 minutes! I got searched as well, the invigilator was very friendly about asking though.

You get searched??? Since when are they doing that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 74 ✭✭DaXiS

They don't search you, bit of a stretch.

Just ask you to empty your pockets, looking for paper or whatever. And I also have not seem them ask a girl...
It's a bit of a pain and interrupts train of thought, but if you say no...

Yea i havnt seen a girl been searched yet either. then again girls dont tend to have stuff in there pockets.......

Searches!? Jesus things have changed, it was much more honour-system a couple years ago. Used to have little good luck mascots and all on the desk.

Glad I didn't go for invigilating, ugh hate to have to ask people to turn out their pockets.

You could just not do it.

I presume its just an RDS thing cause the place is so ****ing huge. They certainly haven't been doing anything like that in my exams. Still though, its a bit nuts.

Wait, do you actually need to fill in that flap bit? The lady in my first exam told me it was optional.

It'd be a bit embrassing if they asked a girl to empty out her pockets....

Also I haven't noticed anyone being searched in the 4 exams I've had down in the rds so far. Probably was too busy writing.

I got asked to empty my pockets today, I'm a girl. I noticed the magpie as well :D kept me ocupied for a good half hour of the exam! :o

I was searched too, wonder who they decide to pick on? Is it just us shady looking blokes? I have gathered a bit of stubble recently but it hardly qualifies me as the type of hardened criminal who would bring a phone into an exam!

Magpies?! was that at the 9.30 exam?? The invigilator in charge was also a little bit narky...she kept telling us to 'BE QUIET'.

I know a guy who got searched 3 times out of 2 exams...

I had a tracksuit on and had my wallet and my keys in the same pocket, so it probably looked quite bulky...that's my theory anyway.

I haven't seen it happen in any of my other exams, but the rooms we've been doing them in are much smaller. The RDS is such a big venue that they don't really have enough invigilators to have a good view of everyone in the place, so random spot checks must be the best way to discourage any sneaky cheating.

I got searched today and I'm a girl. A girl on the row next to me was searched too. Up 'til then I had only seen guys being searched in the others...

The sticky flap yoke is annoying, it tastes horrible :(

zuchum - It sucks, but just 'cause it's turned off doesn't mean he couldn't use it in the bathroom or whatever. Not that I'm saying your friend would, but that's how the college sees it. I can totally see where they're coming from on the phone thing - you could easily stick some formulas or whatever in your messages and just check it. Or phones with internet.
*shrugs* You take the risk of getting it confiscated if you bring it into the exam..

We realised prior to our first exam that a friend of mines nokia N95 was theoretically capable of storing all our notes, in PDF format. Actually pretty scary tbh, the idea of people cheating never really bothered me that much before, but when its at the level of getting a degree out of it I think i've moved past that "its only themselves they're hurting".

So yeah, whatever they can do to stop it, i'm happy :D

didnt think random people had the right to search you....

They don't, but they do have the right to refuse admission, so...

People don't have the right to search you in general but if you're sitting exams it's a different ballgame. People don't have the right to confiscate your phone, either.

or the right to charge you 35 euro....ah well im not a cheater so i dont mind. i think they chose me cus i was streching alot, and looking around and taking little breaks and stuff and the fact ive got semi long hair. lol i do hate cheaters, so the college should try and stop them.....it would make more sense if they just searched people who go to the toilets tho.....
