As you may be aware Ryanair are 'selling' free flights at the moment.

Coincidentally at the same time as I'm organizing a trip to SSL's factory near Oxford in the UK.

The purpose of the trip is to see the new Mynx and Matrix Console (both of which I've posted on in the last few months) and the X-Rack.

The SSL factory has 4 purpose built control rooms (by Andy Munro, John Flynn etc) and they've set up a Matrix in one.

We'll also get to see the factory and talk to the guys who design and build the stuff.

The trip is leaving Dublin airport at 8.15 am to Luton, SSL will then ferry us to the factory and back getting the 8.25 pm flight on Tuesday June 3rd.

If any of you have any interest in going you'd be very welcome as our guest.
Just let me know and I'll book flights , no charge, no strings attached.

You won't be getting any Sales spiel as it's the geeky guys we'll be dealing with. I would however like to hear your thoughts.

I'd need to know in the next day or two if you'd like to come.

    Should be great fun!

Sure I would love to Paul but It will be a good while before im looking at SSLs(!) and I havent spent enough time on one to be of any use asking questions. I would definitely love to go but wouldnt like to think Im wasting anyones time! If there is anyone here who has any decent experience with SSL's they would be gone in the head to miss this.

And anyway its just a mackie factory (lol!)

That's not the point- the point is have a look see and pick up info.

At the moment there are about 9 of us going so anyone additional can come and say nothing all day if they wish - you'll also be in company of like minds.

Excellent, let me know. It'll be good fun over there - The Geekery of the boys is comical- but they're good men with their fingers on the pulse.

    Any other takers?

That sounds like a great opportunity - seems there is such thing as a free lunch after all. Please stick my name down on the list. (Flights included.)

I'd be more of a Mynx than a Matrix sort of chap myself but I think a trip around the SSL facility would be fascinating.

    Thanks

    Free Flights finish tonight!

If you have any interest in Hi End Analogue gear come with us for a day of Turbo Geekery to SSL's HQ.

There are 15 guys in total coming now!!

Better than reading a review, better than a trade show - an opportunity to see new gear and quiz the guys who design and build it.

    Come on if you're coming....

    Tuesday June 3rd

Bring some Rich Tea too, yea?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,110 ✭✭✭sei046

    First post back. Oh YEA!

For anyone who missed it. You missed a two and a half hour bus trip of the motorway and torrential rain. And we may have visited some factory or something or other.

But in all seriousness a great trip and definitely worth a second visit! The blokes at SSL were great and extremely down to earth. Also bagged us some nice goodies!

Thanks to all who took the trouble (and it was trouble!) to come to SSL HQ yesterday.

We had Floods, a burning lorry on the M25, 12.5 mile tailbacks and 2.5 hours to do 60 miles on motorways- but Gawdammit, we bonded!

We also had a great, hands on, look see with the new Matrix and Mynx units, and splendid sandwiches.

Hopefully the visit De-Mystified Pro Audio a bit for some, it ain't some Old Boys Club that aims to price out the 'lil guy' but a pragmatic approach to audio that says 'A sounds better that B, lets use A....' or in this case S!

See www.MySpace.com/audiowarehouse for some photos, mostly robbed from Dav!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,110 ✭✭✭sei046

I owe you two pints. You can charge me an extra 8.02 for my x rack!

In all seriousness trips like that are not to be missed for anyone who didnt make it!
