Anyone know any good weathersealed cameras?

I know the Canon 1d is weather sealed, but that costs roughly 10 times more than my car.

So are there any cheaper models that you might know of? thanks

Here you go - fully weather proof camera or even this one. :D

The 40D has decent weather sealing. How much sealing do you need? Is it not cheaper to buy a decent weather cover (like a Kata or Aquatech Sportsshield)?

The Nikon D200 and D300 spring to mind. As do the Pentax K10D and K20D.

The 40d only has weather sealing around the memory card slot. The rest of the camera isn't sealed afaik.....

How much sealing do you want/need?

The 40D has sealing around the lens attachment, the card slot and the battery slot.

I think he wants an E3 from Olympus, fully sealed body and a range of fully sealed lenses if you stick to the Pro and Top Pro line. You can get an E3 and 14-54 lens (35mm equiv 28-108mm) for about €2200 or a little less.

There are also the 2 Pentax bodies but they don't have many sealed lenses.

    Thank me later

40D stood up to this as did the Sigma 10-20mm attached to it. I'm still buying a proper casing for the camera though.

A lot depends on what you mean by weather sealing - ie what conditions you're trying to protect against.

Rain & mist/moisture sealing would do me fine... I don't think I'd be out surfing with the camera anyways!

Well, If a camera survives what Calina puts it up against (salt water splashing against the body and lens) then I'd wager it'd survive practically anything. However I don't know what the internals of that camera are going to look like in a years time ... Lets just say I wouldn't be too enthusiastic about buying it second hand ...

I've used my 20D/40D in many conditions - rain, myst, sand, dirt and never had a problem. They are strong enough to handle that. If in doubt, buy a camera weather shield.

A couple of people actually wanted to buy my 350D which has been through something like 45,000 actuations and got much worse soakings than the picture above. I just felt it was worth more to me to keep it rather than sell it for 150E or whatever I could get for it since it's been superceded twice by Canon now. It's still working great though.

I'm buying a casing because to be honest, not being able to move freely is hampering my style in the water. I have never (so far) submerged a camera in the water but I could have done with the freedom of being able to go a little deeper on Wed.

I don't think you need the level of weather sealing of a 1D to be honest. If you're worried about a little rain or dust, don't open the camera in those atmospheres. Ever.

I can't believe there's only been one post about Olympus and their E3 - I've heard that they can survive a dunking in the sea!

Have a search for it - it can snap photos with its built-in flash popped up while getting a bottle of water poured over it. Some owners apparently use tap water to clean the body after shooting in dirty environments...

I wouldn't want to try that with either a Nikon or a Canon. Though my Nikon D40 has survived light rain and snow...

Pentax K10D and newer K20D are weather sealed.

I've seen a photo in the DPreview forums of it being doused with beer, and it continued to work. Would start to have a strange odour though.

Talking about compact cameras, there is new 10 MPx one coming from Pentax stables as well...
