**Not looking for anyone to offer horses for sale**

What are horses making in Ireland at the moment? I'm in Sweden. Want to import 5 horses. Possibly 1/2 ponies and 3/4 horses.

    So here's what i want ;)

16h-16.2h 4/5/6 y o geldings. 3/4 bred or 1/2 breds. Horses don't have to have done anything much. Broken and riding is all. Good jump and straight stepping. Don't have to be superstars but should be nice to look at.

14.2 Ponies 5/6 y o. Jumping a little bit (not competing) and quite.

    Any help is appreciated.

    T

Don't know about the horses as I haven't bought a new one in 6 years!! There is an awful lot of c**p on the market at the moment but for well bred, nice horses 4k- 8k.
Ponies are another story all together! Spent 8 months looking for a new one last year and they were all overpriced and inexperienced. Prices ranged from 4k to 12k for 6 and 7 year olds with not a huge amount done.
I may have been looking in a different sort of market though (eventing).
    Hope this is of help.

You'll have to pay a visit to Goresbridge or Cavan Togster.

    hi togster,
Here's one for you! Im from sweden myself, horse dealer family on the west coast... Im living in Dublin since a couple of years back but have worked on different stables around Ireland before that. Have been going to Cavan a good bit for the last 7 years as my family import horses from Ireland. Have been to Goresbridge too but the average standard of the horses is not as good, plus its really easy to show horses there and as a seller you can get away with A LOT(speaking from own experience of showing a good few nutters there).

I know the horses/ponies you're looking for and they don't come cheap anymore. Especially not the ponies. The ones worth buying, regardless if they have experience or not, usually go 7k+. Add to that, that you as a buyer from over seas automatically raises the prize. As soon as we start bidding the local dealers will think its a fantastic pony and yet another average grey, 14.2 pony with no neck, believed to be by famous connemara sire, is pushing 10k. Crazy!
Horses on the other hand are sometimes cheaper. But they're also a bigger gamble. Cavan do x-rays now which is brilliant. We have actually stopped buying irish horses, mainly import from Holland these days. Better quality, not that dear, fully vetted and professionally broken.

There are also regular transports from Cavan to sweden, but you probably now that. 700 euros per horse, 3 days, via england, france, denmark, that route.

All that and it seems like the swedish horse market is over populated, at least where Im from. 5 years ago people were buying horses like crazy, nowadays we might not even get a call for some ads. Im surprised you want to take in even more horses haha. Suppose if you work for one of the big names you will always have customers.

Where exactly do you work if you don't mind me asking, dont know if you can say their names on here.. Actually you don't have to, im just being nosey now :)

Ok its late and Im rambling, but Ill be back. I miss my old horsey life:)

    So i did it!

I was in Ireland last week and bought a smashing 16.2h horse, a 3 y o mare and a pony. Horses are expensive in Ireland but i have a great feeling about the 16.2 horse.

To the above poster: I work near Båstad on the west coast and ride near malmö- The market seems good here. i already have a customer for the 16.2h :(. Even though i would love to hold on to him. My opinion is that if the horse is good enough you'll always sell them. I plan to get myself established as a producer of quality irish sport horses here. The country is over populated with warm bloods atm.

    check out www.ecklandssportshorses.com

I know Dave, based in north Dublin, he starts and sells really nicely brought on horses. Shodul have a few around the 16h+ mark 4/5/6/7. Think there's actually price list etc on his website. Def worth a look as you do get exactly what you see (unusual!!)
