I have been looking around for a course for a while. I have noticed that St.Margarets are offering annual membership for €1995 + Vat.

I haven't played there in several years, has anyone played it recently ? As far as I know they usually offered membership at around the 10k mark plus annual subs, any idea why they changed this ?

Any thoughts appreciated, or any other options that I should be looking at.

I played it recently and was so disappointed. The course has gone to hell, the greens were atrocious, far too many weeds and some disease. For a so-called "Championship" course, it's fallen way below the standard necessary.

Membership at that price is far too expensive. Get membership down the country and pay green fees, you will still save a lot of money. As for this "Plus VAT" lark? That price should include VAT.

(PS We played as a society, we only had 16 players, having reserved for 25. St Margaret's insisted we pay 25 x €60 for the course, thus ensuring we will never darken their door again. They have shot themselves in the foot, all for €540)

Never played St Margaret's, heard it's gotten a bit rough lately.
€2,000 a year sounds like a lot (are they a GUI club or just a business ??)

A decent alternative is Beaverstown, I joined recently
€7,500 joining fee and €1,100 annual sub.
And the joining fee can be spread out over 3 years if you wish.
Also, I hear that Forest Little have redcued their joining fee.

St. Margarets has gone really down hill over the past few years.

I play corporate events there a couple of times a year and to be honest I wouldn't even pay e20 of my own money to play there.

    Choose elsewhere.
