The cd changer has died in my A4(2002) and I'm thinking of getting something with MP3 abilities to replace it.
Looking on ebay I came across these
Are they cheap and cheerful or a waste of money?
    Thanks
    JC

I've no experience of that product in particular but if it does work it would be cool... also aldi are doing a 2GB SD card at the minute for €9.99.

Have you read the feedback on ebay from the other people who bought it?

    My setup at the moment...

30gig mp3 player, and a FM transmitter, more songs than your cd changer can handle, and portable. Also doesn't mess up the asthetics of the dashboard.

    Think about it.

I used one of the FM transmitters with my iPod too - but hated it!! The sound quality is not great and is very variable. Plus, if you travel a lot you will have to keep re-tuning it to avoid local stations. Finally - if you are in Dublin - forget about it!! Too many stations etc which interfere.

With the product you suggest, you have to start transferring music etc. Sounds a bit messy to me.

If your car has a cassette deck (mine is also an '02 and does) I highly recommend getting one of these cassette adapter things:

Far superior sound and no interference! Cheap as chips too. The only downside is the wire from the stereo - if you can deal with that though, this is a great solution.

CD Changers are out dated and I am surprised they are still being used. Best option is an MP3 compatible head unit with USB / Blurtooth/1/8"jack in or one that can store music on a hdd. DA Autostore in Stillorgan have a massive selection of new generation car stereo head units PH 2785930

I bought the VW version of this for the wife's Golf, works perfectly, car stereo sees the Ipod as a cd changer so you can jump through playlists and songs using the car stereo and/or steering wheel controls as if they were CD's, also charges and has a 3.5mm jack for non Ipod Mp3 players too.

All in all I've been very happy with it. Not bad value either when you see how much the main dealers charge for exactly the same setup.

I have a sony bt2500 headunit. bluetooth audio and phone compatible, and has front aux input. When i sit into the car and turn it on, it pairs with my phone automatically (no penalty points!).

The front aux input is a standard audio jack, but if you don't want wires coming out the front of the unit, you can get bluetooth adapter/transmitter things and chuck the whole lot in the glove box...no control over ipod unfortunately.

    Definitely recommend it.

I've been looking at one too for my Audi Allroad. Dension and Dice do units for the iPod that get very good reviews. The Dice units seem to work best on the Audi but are really only available in the US. You can buy them on eBay form the US for around €100 shipped. They ship by standard post so you shouldn't get hit with duty.

They're also easy to fit. All you need to do is pop the radio out, disconnect the CD player and connect the unit. The Dice and Dension units will also charge the iPod. The Dension units are available from the UK but work out closer to €200.

For that money, the eBay cheapie may be worth a try. If it works, great. If it doesn't, then it didn't cost you much to try it.

I bought a Belkin FM transmitter for my iPod in the US. It had decent reviews. It's crap IMO. The sound quality is rubbish and interferrence is constant. You find a clear channel and a couple of miles down the road you start getting interference.

This is the one I was using before I found the cassette adapter in a drawer at work!! The Belkin FM transmitter was pretty useless.

I ordered a Dice unit last night. I'll post a review when it's installed.
